I hope to work with and help individuals (pre-teens, adolescents, young adults, adults), couples and families struggling with areas in their lives that are causing them pain and difficulties in their everyday functioning. My experience includes working with those struggling with anxiety and/or depression, healing and recovering from abuse/neglect/traumatic experience, working through relational and adjustment difficulties, as well as attachment struggles and behavioral challenges. Goals in counseling include relief from struggles/symptoms, but also learning ways to process, manage and heal from the struggles/symptoms one deals with.

I have extensive experience working with individuals who are grieving, families who are struggling in their relationships, and with those who are facing challenges in their lives and in their relationship with God. I do individual counseling as well as marriage and family counseling. I focus on communication skills, coping with stress and anxiety, trauma, and healing past hurts. My perspective and approach is Christian but I work very well with clients who are not religious or who are exploring their relationship with God.

I've been trained to help with depression, anxiety, and trauma. Through evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), I equip clients with practical tools to manage challenges and build healthy coping mechanisms. For deeper trauma healing, I also utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a well-researched therapy proven effective for treating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. My practice welcomes both adults and adolescents (13+) seeking support on their journey towards emotional well-being.

I believe that all people are valuable and worthy of experiencing peace; however many factors make it difficult to achieve that. Counseling is one way to navigate those factors whether they are mild or debilitating. Often times, we are capable of healing and finding relief from painful experiences, we only need the right resources to begin. I am here to provide those and offer a healthy relationship to support you in the process. I can help by offering a safe and judgement free space for you to be honest, maybe for the first time.

My ideal client is someone who has been dealing with depression and anxiety, and cannot get past it, and cannot remember their childhood, and has trauma from childhood. I am a trauma counselor, and I work with people to bring them to a better place, to cope and deal with their lives in a more positive and intentional way. I also work with persons who have personality disorder, and bipolar depression, ADHD or ADD, grief, and couples counseling. I think that making goals of better managing one's personal problems and treating and managing one's mental health is extremely important to live a healthier life and be happy again!

I believe that validation is key to creating a foundation from which to begin recovering from mental health challenges. If you do not feel validated, you will continue to suffer, often times in silence. I also believe in being my true authentic self with my clients in hopes that this will inspire them to do the same. The important thing for me is that I can meet you where you are and empower you to start making the changes you would like to see. “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.” – Carl Rogers, On Becoming a Person

I believe that counseling is first and foremost a relationship. As any good relationship is based on trust, so effective counseling is also based on trust. Trust develops when people feel accepted and supported no matter what their circumstances, and when they know the other has their best interests at heart. Honest communication is essential to the therapeutic relationship. For clients this means not withholding information that is difficult to discuss. For the counselor, this means giving honest feedback.

Hello, my name is Daniel Leal. I am an LPC and have been in the mental health field for about 5 years. My specialty and love is working with child/adolescent clients who have behavioral issues. However, I love also working with all individuals to help them create opportunities to change their lives. I have gained a lot of experience working with a range of mental health challenges, including highly acute clients with significant diagnoses such as Bipolar and Schizophrenia. I am comfortable working in many settings and would describe myself as inclusive and strength-based.

It is my belief that we all need help at times in our lives, but reaching out can be difficult. Issues around addiction, trauma, communication within a relationship, and Autism can seem overwhelming. I have a strong belief that clients have the ability to resolve their own problems with some assistance. I believe that through a strong empathic working relationship, clients are capable of finding clarity and contentment in their lives. It is my job to help you through difficult times and provide you with the tools necessary to move on in your lives in a healthy way.

I take a holistic approach to therapy, considering the impact on my clients' lives of their ancestry, body, family structures, work and finances, and other intersectional realities. Connection, compassion, hope, and change are the guiding principles of Every Story Counseling, private practice of Dr. Greg Johnston housed within the Playroom Lubbock. Greg practices from the belief that importance should be given to the client's current story, but that most importantly hope exists for everyone to write new pages and chapters.

My practice as a licensed clinical psychologist involves treating clients with multitudes of mental health concerns or just stressors of life. My goal is to be a collaborator rather than an expert in facilitating exploration, reflection, and consideration of alternative problem formulations and interventions. I empower clients by providing a safe, cooperative, nonjudgmental, & confidential environment so that folks may gain flexibility in their thinking and behavior. Through supportive therapy, I will assist clients in understanding how their perceptions, thoughts, and beliefs affect their behavior, mood, and self-esteem.
