Issues related to pregnancy loss, separation and divorce, and death are sensitive areas that require a great amount of care.
You are exhausted from the constant fighting. Your stomach turns and your head reels at the thought of returning home after a long day. The smallest disagreements erupt into yelling, bitterness, and finally-silence. You wonder if the peace can return, and if your relationship can have joy like it used to, or if it's time to call it quits.

My areas of expertise, however, include depression, eating disorders/body image, infertility and pregnancy-related issues, and women's concerns.
Are you having problems in your most important relationships? Are you feeling down, tired, and unmotivated? Do seemingly small things send you over the edge? Are you struggling with communicating your feelings? Has it been difficult for you to adjust to a major life change, such as being a college student or new parent? Are you struggling to come to terms with an infertility diagnosis? Is your relationship with food and your body a constant source of stress?

My focus is on creating a safe and nurturing space for those in the transformative perinatal period, as well as for women in their college years who are exploring their identity, relationships, and sense of self as they transition into adulthood.
I hold a certification in Perinatal Mental Health and specialize in women's wellness during life transitions. My approach combines evidence-based therapies with a particular emphasis on EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a powerful tool that helps alleviate trauma, anxiety, and stress, and complements traditional therapeutic methods.

The therapeutic process is a healing process. Healing takes place both internally and within the context of relationship. We constantly shift and change day to day, week to week, year to year. Changes can be going from sleeping to waking, from changing our routines, or outdated patterning. Changes can come in the form of a new baby, a new marriage, a new job; and they can also be divorce, death, health issues, or a sudden move. Inherent in every change is a level of questioning, worry, and concern either internal or external. I do believe change is a wonderfully empowering catalyst to growth and healing.

As a counselor, I am willing work with people, wherever they are. Counseling is a place where burdens can be shared, and clients can sort out their past and present, along with strengths and weaknesses, and as a result, gain guidance for their future. People have different problems depending on their individual situation, developmental stage, and age. Each person's solution is different, but everyone can improve, and most want to become the best they can be.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
