However, I also utilize CBT, DBT, Internal Family Systems, and other therapeutic modalities.
So often we suffer traumas and emotional struggles, feeling like no one will understand or not knowing where to turn. This is one of the reasons I chose to become a counselor. My role in my client's lives is to provide a different outlook and to evaluate possible solutions. I provide my clients with a safe and supportive environment, free of judgement or criticism, where meeting their goals is top priority. I help my clients recognize their choices, as well as the means to get there, and together we will work towards achieving those desired goals.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 12 years of experience in the field.
I create an informal environment where I establish rapport and create a safe space where the client feels comfortable. When we have our first session and the initial intake, I broach the subject of goals and the importance of initially setting a goal or goals. I let clients know that the goals are fluid and can change or become clearer as time goes on.

My approach is grounded in mindfulness-based therapies (Acceptance, Commitment Therapy, Inner Family Systems, MBCT) with a neurological focus on neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to heal itself).
If you are struggling with trauma, anxiety, unhealthy self-image and relationship patterns, grief, neurodiversity (ADHD/GT/AU) or gender diversity challenges, you will likely find my therapeutic approaches helpful. Clients who are ready to work in a collaborative partnership) for better outcomes in their day-to-day and long range wellness often reach the best outcomes. Compassionate listening to support self acceptance gets us started then a focus on integrating change (internal or external) often result in clients decreasing suffering early on in the process. I see clients through Headway (see below) or Tava.

We may use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-focused techniques, as well as more traditional modalities.
When our thoughts feel over-powering and overwhelming, when our relationships are uncomfortable and full of discord, when we feel unable to do what we believe we should be doing, counseling can help. Oftentimes finding a neutral non-judgmental partner to explore concerns and fears will bring clarity and peace, lower anxiety, and decrease depressive symptoms. Together we can acknowledge barriers to goals, explore unhealthy patterns, and clarify intentions and desired results.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
