As a trauma therapist, I help adults, teens, and many men who have spent years believing they should simply "get over it
I use EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic approaches, and Trauma-Focused CBT to help clients process traumatic memories, quiet the inner critic, reduce anxiety, and develop greater confidence, emotional balance, and healthier relationships. Rather than simply managing symptoms, we'll work to heal the underlying wounds that keep you feeling stuck.

As someone who found therapy during darker days, I'm an avid believer that empathetic listening can heal some of our deepest wounds. My approach to counseling sees clients through a holistic and person-centered perspective, while understanding that most symptoms we have are from unprocessed traumas we've been exposed to. I see these traumas and their symptoms as parts of us that want to be heard and understood, instead of allowing them to control much of our lives.

You're a kid, teen, or young adult trying to hold it all together — maybe you're the "strong one," the perfectionist, the friend everyone leans on.
I blend person-centered warmth with solution-focused therapy and CBT — so our work feels safe, but never stuck. I specialize in children, teens, and young adults facing life transitions, grief, perfectionism, and relational challenges. My approach is thoughtful and directive: we name what's hard, uncover what's driving it, and build skills that last.

My goals in therapy center around two ideas: helping you feel better and helping you get better. Life gets complicated for all of us (either throughout our lives or during parts of our lives). Sometimes we just need someone else to help guide us through it and teach us a new way to approaching our difficulties. One part involves helping you gain confidence that you can have control of your life, & the other involves challenging your beliefs and world views that keep you from living life to the fullest. Helping you feel better involves compassionate listening and understanding your concerns through your worldview.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
