You might be an adult, teen, or pre-teen who feels like your emotions, thoughts, or behaviors don't quite make sense — even to yourself. Maybe anxiety is quietly running the show, or a life transition has left you feeling unsteady. Maybe you're asking deeper questions about who you are and where you're headed. You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support. If something feels off beneath the surface and you're ready to explore it, this might be the space for you. Brenden works with individuals navigating emotional overwhelm, identity, stress, and the moments in life that ask more of you than you expected.

I'm Ashley! I believe counseling should be tailored to the person sitting across from me, not a one-size-fits-all approach. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and hold a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES). My experience includes working with trauma across life, military, veteran, first responders, clients in the perinatal period, and those seeking support in their relationships. Much of my work focuses on the ways our experiences shape how we relate to ourselves and others. Together we can explore patterns that no longer serve you, strengthen important relationships, and create a meaningful path forward.

I specialize in treating men struggling with anger, anxiety, and relationships. Modern life has created tons of expectations, responsibilities, and challenges for men, and no one has taught them how to deal with it. They just have to ‘deal with it’. Often, men are written off as weak, lazy, entitled, or outright ignored. You may already have sought therapy, but even then, therapy felt like it was too focused on internal emotions instead of making actual change.

Many people sense that something in their life is not fully aligned — even when, from the outside, things appear functional or successful. My work focuses on helping people understand the deeper patterns beneath anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviors, relationship struggles, and feelings of disconnection.

I work with people who are struggling with anxiety, relationship issues, and a sense of direction in life. I also help people who experience doubt, shame, and guilt. Life can be hard, and it’s not always clear how to make sense of what you’re feeling or what to do next. I help people better understand their thoughts and emotions so they can make clearer decisions and, at times, change the direction of their lives. I also help individuals who have difficulty sleeping, using CBT-I and training from the University of Pennsylvania Sleep Center, to help reset sleep patterns and address insomnia.

Have you experienced trauma in your life? Are you continuing to live with the symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or grief? Or are you a man who is wishing to better understand yourself or your relationships? I believe it is important to understand the goals of each individual and customize therapy to those desired outcomes. Therapy is a collaborative process in which both client and therapist are active participants, working together to reach the goals of the client. I believe it is crucial in this work to create treatment plans that identify where clients are now, where they want to be, and how we plan to get there.

We are all part of interconnected systems, like families, workplaces, and schools. These systems shape us, for better and for worse. They also send us powerful messages about who we’re “supposed” to be. Sometimes this causes us to get stuck in a story of who we are that we didn't author and don't know how to change. Therapy gives us space to critically examine the narratives that have come to shape our lives, and the ability to reauthor them moving forward. Understanding how we learned to behave gives us more power to decide how we behave now.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
