I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan and undergraduate degrees in psychology and sociology from Lake Forest College. I’ve always been curious about other people’s points of view and enjoy learning about the qualities and experiences that make each individual unique. My previous experience includes working with clients in psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, schools, and homes. I feel privileged to share in the journeys of many people as they work toward wellness, learning to manage mental illness, difficult relationships, or other life events.

We are all part of interconnected systems, like families, workplaces, and schools. These systems shape us, for better and for worse. They also send us powerful messages about who we’re “supposed” to be. Sometimes this causes us to get stuck in a story of who we are that we didn't author and don't know how to change. Therapy gives us space to critically examine the narratives that have come to shape our lives, and the ability to reauthor them moving forward. Understanding how we learned to behave gives us more power to decide how we behave now.

Many struggle with shame, envy, and the “what ifs” that cause stress in our day to day lives. We feel pressure from the internet to “have more, be more, do more.” We can dismantle those beliefs, build ourselves back up, and be kinder to ourselves. I do my best work with men, individuals, and couples looking for a direct, "down to earth" style that helps create a comfortable space to discuss your therapy goals. My couples work includes learning to regulate emotions, respond with compassion, and understand your partner's needs and desires.

As a Licensed Sex Therapist, I get asked all kinds of questions! Is it weird that my libido is different from my partner's? I am curious about variety but I love and want to stay committed to my partner, is there an answer? I've detached myself from ever feeling vulnerable again; is love, intimacy, or committment right for me? How can sex bring my partner and I closer when what I really want is to be seen and heard? I like weird stuff, how do I share this? Hi! I'm Savannah, and I have nearly 20 years experience in sex and relationships. I look forward to exploring with you!

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
