I most often use CBT, client-centered, Gestalt and psychoanalytic approaches.
Does it feel like your life is out of control or in the middle of a storm? For children and adults alike, this can feel especially isolating and even scary. If this sounds familiar, I may be a good fit for you. Much of my practice is working with neurodivergent people, parents and siblings of those with neurodivergence and associated disorders. I am also a parent of three, one of whom is an neurodivergent young adult. I get it! From our first meeting, I hope you will see there is hope in managing the feelings and obstacles that come with the challenges you each face. Please take a look at my web page.

We all face challenges throughout our lives. My focus is on helping individuals see what anxiety is—it started out as a protective strategy. Its job is to make you aware of all possible problems before they even arise…and then it got out of control. You can learn how to handle this stress differently. Remember, it is how you handle a challenge that makes the experience a "grind" or a "growing experience".

Hi! I’m Christine Vick, a licensed professional counselor and national certified counselor. Sometimes life can get too overwhelming and our brains just can’t turn off. Sometimes the anxiety on our plates is too much between work and home. Sometimes we don’t know how best to support our children. There are so many ways that we might need support to rethink, to heal, or to find support.

Change in our lives is inevitable. The transition periods between times of stability in our lives are more common then we often care to admit. These transitions can trigger stress, anxiety, depression and other current and long standing psychological issues. I started my clinical practice in 1989 in Austin, Texas and specialize in helping adult individuals and couples who are experiencing transitions due to significant changes occurring in their lives.

You may appear to have it all together to those around you, but internally you are struggling not to fall apart. You have a hard time balancing everything that is going on in your life and feel overwhelmed. Depression and anxiety are normal for you, but recently you feel they have been controlling your day to day. You're noticing patterns that you can't seem to break out of on your own. You know that it can get better, what you’ve been doing isn’t working. You’re tired of feeling stuck and you are motivated to learn how to love yourself, how to cope with daily struggles, and how to unlearn and change what you experienced growing up.

My ideal client feels overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted from trying to hold everything together. They may struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, or low self-worth. Often high-functioning on the outside, they feel disconnected or burnt out on the inside. They want to understand their patterns, build effective coping skills, and feel more grounded and confident. They’re seeking a warm, collaborative therapist who offers both support and practical tools in a safe, nonjudgmental space.

I work from a person-centered approach, using humor, mindfulness, and acceptance as tools of healing and transformation. I believe in the need to broaden our view from seeing individual struggles as collective, moving towards solutions that foster interdependence and equity. I approach counseling as a co-creation, and I consider my role to be an insightful companion through the process. I trust the inherent wholeness of each individual. My clinical focus includes fat liberation/anti-diet body image, grief and loss, fertility challenges/pregnancy loss, family and relationship struggles, and life transitions.

Gestalt Therapists
What is gestalt therapy?
Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?
Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?
Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
