As a professional with years of experience and lots of success under your belt, it’s hard to face the reality that something in life isn’t working. You’re respected, regarded, and esteemed for your character and accomplishments, yet anxiety always hangs out in the background, threatening your resolve and making you doubt your abilities. The tension disrupts everything – your relationships, your productivity, your leisure… even your sleep. You could keep going this way, but you’re smart enough to realize it comes at a serious cost. You’ve got to do something to quiet the noise so that YOU – not your anxiety – can run the show again.

Are you experiencing difficult challenges in your life? Do you struggle with finding the time to take care of yourself and make positive change? Do you feel you should have all the answers yourself? Since there is no manual on handling life's problems, talking to a supportive, nonjudgmental person may be just what you are missing. I believe anyone can change and develop the skills in order to take charge of their own life. I see each individual as their own unique person and therefore will have their own unique therapy plan. Sometimes that first step can be the most difficult and I look forward to supporting you along your journey.

I am a firm believer that we don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. It is not uncommon to feel as though you are merely surviving rather than living- the work I do helps clients graduate from “survival mode” to truly living life. I’d love to work alongside you as you build a life worth living!

If you are a tired & overstimulated mama, you have come to the right place! Motherhood is the toughest job, and moms are often not given the recognition for all they do. I want you to know that I see you! As a mom myself, I know how challenging it can be. Whether you just need support as a mom, or you are experiencing more intense symptoms (i.e: postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, or rage) I am here to support you through that journey. As a mom that experienced perinatal depression, I know first hand how scary and isolating the experience can feel. The fear can overwhelm you and it can be hard to share how you're feeling.

Change is the only constant in life, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is easy. Pain or fear can be an indicator that something isn't working and it is time for change. Like most things worthwhile, change requires hard work. I love what I get to do which is guiding you through the process of change. Whatever your struggle, I'm here to work through it with you...you are not alone!

Here's where I can help you. Engaging in therapy with me means having space and time to process your inner thoughts and feelings in an accepting and affirming environment. I'll teach you evidence-based skills that you can begin using on day one.

I take pride in my 25 years of experience working with a variety of populations, and I enjoy working with clients 15 years of age and up. My clients over the years have had: depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment difficulty, and teenagers with a variety of peer, family, and self-esteem issues. I welcome women's issues, veteran's issues, LGBTQ issues, those who are just "stuck", going through a life transition or folks who have been in and out of therapy for years. I've found that most people are just doing the best they can to muddle through life and dodge the challenges that are so prevalent today. Having support does help!

I believe there comes a time in everyone's life when we will feel lost, disconnected or hopeless. We sometimes lose our ability to deal with life's challenges. This inability to deal with life's challenges can be frightening, confusing and problematic. What is needed at such moments in our life is an attuned and trusted other. Someone who can believe in us when we can't believe in ourselves. It is in this kind of therapeutic relationship where old wounds are healed and we learn to trust, manage our emotions and reconnect to our wise and true self. I am a trauma therapist specializing in religious abuse and childhood trauma.

I work with adults and adolescents (16+) who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or periods of change. Many clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why certain patterns keep repeating. My approach is thoughtful and relational, with an emphasis on slowing things down and building understanding over time. Together, we make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface and work toward feeling more grounded, connected, and at ease in daily life.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
