Sherene Jones
Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, MEd, NCC, LPC, LMHC

I am licensed in both WA and TX and I hold additional certifications in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and ACT.
I work with people who are genuinely worn out. They’re not necessarily in crisis, they’re just tired of carrying so much and ready for life to feel a little lighter. Many feel pressure to appear “fine” while quietly struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or the general overwhelm of everyday life. They’re the parent juggling work and family with no time to breathe, or the college student who seems okay on the outside but feels scattered, behind, and exhausted. They want relief, clarity, and support - without judgment. A space where they don’t have to pretend anymore.

Have you looked in the mirror and asked yourself, "How did I get here?" “Who can I trust?” “How did my life change so quickly that I can't even recognize myself anymore?" "Am I Crazy?" "I Want to be Happy?" Problems are just the tip of the iceberg. Real problems start and end with the mirror image we see daily. Often the mirror image is silent but dying to speak and live life again. Issues in life begin with the inability to be heard, believed in, and understood. I think the best way to find you again, is to find your voice.

Knowing and accepting oneself is foundational to living a connected life. Many of us were not provided the tools to live connectively with ourselves and others. You may have learned to distrust yourself, to be disgusted with, to fear, and to hide your needs and/or emotions. We instinctively numb body/mind connection for survival. Whether it’s surviving neglect, a high-control group/relationship, abuse, or resource scarcity, we adapt to live. But to process stress, anxiety, grief/loss, depression, pain, and trauma in helpful ways, we must function as a whole person. The body working with the mind and the mind working with the body.

We don't get to chose when hardships come our way, but we absolutely get to have a say in how we go through them. Healing and strength comes from understanding our own story and getting to tell it in a safe space. One of those sacred places is in therapy.

My ideal clients are adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or frustrated by their inability to consistently follow through on the changes they want to make. Many are navigating ADHD, chronic stress, burnout, executive function challenges, weight and wellness concerns, or major life transitions. They are often successful in many areas of life but struggle to create sustainable routines, prioritize their own well-being, and maintain healthy habits amidst competing demands.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
