I only accept insurance for individual therapy (with occasional couples or family sessions), not for strictly couples therapy.
Turn your never-ending pattern of defeat with your partner into an ever-growing source of enrichment. You may feel unwanted, unvalued, rejected or unsafe in a relationship that used to be marked by love and intimacy. Despite your best efforts, every interaction ends in a damaging fight or excruciating loneliness. These are predictable experiences to problems that have a highly effective solution.

Do you ask yourself “I’m smart, why is this so difficult?” Or find yourself repeating patterns where you think, “I should know better?” Maybe you were identified as Gifted as a child (or your teen is gifted) and wonder why they call it "gifted" when things are hard? Do you feel you lost your giftedness when you entered high school and gifted "support" became AP classes? Then maybe you could use a guide to help you uncover and understand those things you feel you “should know” or be able to do but might not have ever been taught. Bringing yourself in line with who you want to be is one of the things therapy can do for you.

My ideal client would be where you find yourself trying to hold it together, and you may not look for help until a situation has gotten worse and its almost a crisis. That situation will significantly affect your life, and you will hit a breaking point. This might be self-esteem, anxiety, depression, adjusting to life changes, codependency, grief, health issues, or just feeling stuck. It's hard to ask for help but here you are, and what you thought might work is not working any more. You would find yourself in my office feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, confused but feeling like you had taken the first step to finding HOPE.

Common goals include getting in touch with alienated parts of the self, freedom from self-criticism, healing from emotional abuse or neglect, navigating difficult relationships with family, and relief from symptoms of PTSD, OCD, anxiety disorders, or depression.
I have expert training in evidence-based treatment for PTSD, OCD, depression, anxiety disorders, and couples therapy. I use an array of approaches, so I can draw from CBT's (including DBT, RODBT, ACT, exposure therapy, and CPT for PTSD), psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness practices, depending on the needs and preferences of each individual.

The go-to person for your friends and family.
You’re not positive when it happened, but suddenly, you don’t feel like you can keep on top of your life anymore. You’re on the brink. Its feeling like you’re just one slip way, one small lapse on your part, and everything will come crashing down around you. You’re barely holding on. You’ve become a shell of yourself, going from one thing to the next and it’s all feeling like too much. And you’re starting to worry that other people are catching on. But you wanted so much more for yourself and for your life.

For individual, couples, or family counseling, I typically start with an 80-minute session to gain an understanding of each person's background, worldview, and perspective of the presenting issue.
Are you asking yourself, "Am I strong enough to get through this?" When life presents us with challenges that seem too difficult to bear, we often get stuck in a mental cycle that repeats, "Life isn't fair." I won't tell you otherwise, but I will help you find the strength to go on anyway. In my work with oncology, grief, trauma, and couples in conflict, I have worked with clients in unimaginable physical and emotional pain. Together, we uncover and process the emotions that cause anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, insecurity, and that sinking feeling that you may never get back to "you."

My focus is on helping individuals involved in all walks of life including adolescents, young adults, adults, missionaries, ministers, pastors and their family members in dealing with life’s day-to-day and more complex issues such as anger, anxiety, depression, stress management, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance use.
I firmly believe that healing comes from within, which is strengthened by a willingness to lean into God and an openness to collaboration. With the understanding that each person has their own set of challenges, I use a variety of techniques, as well as spiritual and practical principles from the Bible to help individuals find hope and healing.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
