I work with individuals from adolescence through adulthood, supporting clients across life stages. I firmly believe that no one struggles or acts out without reason—our behaviors and symptoms often stem from deeper experiences, unmet needs, or unresolved pain. My goal is to understand those underlying connections and help facilitate healing and resilience. I use a variety of evidence-based modalities tailored to each person's needs, goals, and stage of life. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, or behavioral challenges, I strive to create a safe space where meaningful change can happen.

A few areas that I specialize in are Attachment issues, Adoption, Kinship Care, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, Parenting, Behavioral Issues in children, and general Trauma.
I believe that everyone needs someone who will give them a safe, non-judgmental place to work through problems or stresses. I see the role of a therapist as someone who dives into the deep end of your emotions/problems and helps guide you on how to swim your way out. I will be there if you start to drown to help keep your head above water, but I will also help you develop the skills to get out of the deep end and know how to navigate it should you end up there again.

TheraPlay and Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) for adoption.
You do not have to walk your journey alone. I'm honored to have over 23 years of experience walking alongside life with my clients. Together, we sort out the chaos and figure out the pieces of the puzzle that lead to peace. I believe counseling is not guesswork. When we figure out what is causing the pain and find the solution, we can attain the health, wellness, and peace we seek. I believe understanding how the brain is processing information is one of the keys to understanding the healing journey. When we can understand how a person’s brain is processing information, we can unlock their ability to communicate healthily.

Congratulations on your journey towards healing and a full life. I invite you to learn a bit more about my practice and the path I have taken to join you. I strive to provide a safe environment for clients to become in touch with their agency, while experiencing the challenges of being human. Most of my work is done in the context of the parent/child relationship, when working with young children and families. With individuals and couples, I allow clients to identify their inner strength and insight to foster personal growth, or develop deep meaningful relationships.

I believe that we can make many changes in our lives in a myriad of ways. We can make changes within ourselves by breaking negative thinking patterns, learning new ways to manage and react to feelings, or by changing behavioral habits. We can also makes changes in our physical and social world, and I seek to help you make decisions and find solutions by identifying realistic, practical, acheivable goals. Core to my practice is a belief that therapy does not need to be painful to be effective, and that smaller changes lead to more and bigger changes.

Feeling safe on our own and feeling connected with others is the key to both our happiness and success; it can also be one of the most challenging things we do in our lives. I have spent my career working with a wide variety of individuals to support them in learning strategies to get their needs met in healthy ways. I specialize in working on attachment issues and relationship issues for both children and adults. In our time together, we would work to develop a treatment plan including setting goals and agreeing on interventions to help you to achieve those goals to live a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
