have 14 years experience in the mental health field. This has mostly been in substance abuse and trauma. My interests mostly revolve around overcoming adverse events. We are shaped by events both good and bad. I believe that a bad or harmful event does not have to totally negative consequences. Pain can lead to both wisdom and growth. A full and rich life is possible despite adverse events. I am committed to both body based and thought based therapies. Improving the mind body connection is often the first step towards a richer and more understandable life.

Are you caught between emotional pain and substance use, feeling like one keeps feeding the other with no clear way out? Whether you're navigating addiction, mood challenges, or the complicated place where both meet, you deserve care that sees the whole picture — not just one piece of it. Recovery isn't only about stopping something. It's about building a life that makes stopping possible.

Are you carrying the weight of trauma, grief, or a mental health diagnosis that has made it hard to feel stable, safe, or like yourself? Whether you're an adult navigating PTSD and emotional upheaval or a parent watching your child struggle with behavioral challenges, the path to clarity can feel impossibly far away. You don't have to find your way there alone — and with the right support, it is closer than you think.

Are you feeling constantly exhausted, anxious, or stuck in your own thoughts? Maybe life feels overwhelming, and no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to get ahead. The weight of expectations, self-doubt, and stress is making it hard to function. You know you need support, but therapy often feels out of reach due to cost or long waitlists. You don’t have to keep struggling alone.

Life can be challenging when issues pop up and you run out of ways to cope. Sometimes the route to happiness is short and simple. Sometimes it takes work to achieve peace of mind. Learning coping skills or thought replacements are just a few ways to help clients move into a better headspace.

I provide play therapy services to children under ten, with a specialization in children three to seven. Play therapy is to children what counseling is to adults. If you are concerned about your child's behavior, developmental challenges, or disruptions in the parent- child relationship, play therapy is the recommended approach to help your child. I also offer a variety of services to enhance the parent-child dynamic including expressive art therapy, sand tray, behavioral consultation and family therapy. No matter the issue I will offer encouragement and support in an accepting environment.

Often we face many challenges in our lives and need an outlet to figure out the road we will take on this next journey. Dealing with depression and anxiety can add to our level of stress. I have successful experience working with adults and older adults dealing with depression and anxiety, grief and loss, stress, divorce, family and care giving issues. I am trained in ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) for childhood and adult trauma. With my previous experience working in hospitals and psychiatric hospitals for adults and older adults I bring skills to help you develop coping strategies as you might face these challenges.

My ideal client has usually been taking care of everyone else for a long time. They’re the one people lean on—the responsible one, the helper, the fixer. On the outside, they look like they’re managing. On the inside, things feel tangled, heavy, and a little out of control. My ideal client often struggles with some mix of: Anxiety and overthinking – racing thoughts, second-guessing everything, trouble relaxing, feeling “on alert” even at home. Low mood or burnout – feeling exhausted, unmotivated, or numb, even when life looks “fine” from the outside. People-pleasing and weak boundaries – saying yes when they want to say no. I

Provide, be a problem solver, put your needs second for the benefit of others, always be available to help, don’t show weakness, but make sure you’re a good listener... that’s what it means to be a good man right? You would think that after doing all the things you’re “supposed” to do to be a “good man” you’d feel fulfilled, loved, appreciated, and accepted...right? Or is it more true to say that you’ve been starting to feel resentful, cynical, and skeptical of the people that say care about you? You’ve learned to base your worth on how much you can provide for others, but have never actually stopped to wonder, "What do I need?"

You seek quality professional counseling and psychotherapy to heal wounds, to enhance your well-being in emotional, mental, social or behavioral difficulties and life changes, or help when life becomes unmanageable. The key factor is the therapeutic relationship that you and I develop as we work together in a warm and safe "place" where your words and challenges are held sacred and confidential.

The situations in the Hill Country - Hunt to Center Point and beyond, have been traumatic for us all. As a resident of Kerrville and husband of a former EMT who was at ground 0 for the 1987 flood, I understand that trauma. The ERT volunteers have been walking by our house daily headed back toward flat rock damn. I see the exhaustion, emotional and physical, that many have and am in admiration of. If you were effected by the catastrophic event and in need of someone to talk with, please do not hesitate to contact me. I have worked with combat veterans and law enforcement personnel and appreciate the experiences they have had.

Just because you can carry your grief doesn’t mean it’s not heavy. Grief can be lonely; overwhelming sadness, feeling numb, guilt, anger, avoidance, or burnout can make you feel disconnected from others and change your perception of yourself and the world around you. With the right help, you can feel better, find meaning in your life, and see beauty in the world again.

Because you care about yourself and those around you, this is the first step in changing your life. Consider what it would be like to get up in the morning, and feel a renewed interest in doing old activities and seeing your friends. The old habits and ways that you have used just aren't getting you the results you want in order to feel joy and happiness. I would love to help you navigate into a better spot.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
