No matter who we are, our relationships influence and mold our experience of life. We all have a desire to create and maintain deep connections to our families, spouse, children, and friends that help sustain us during our challenges and storms and lift us higher during the joys and peaks. For most of us, though, that process is difficult and not without pitfalls. As a
marriage
and family therapist, I keep in mind the importance of relationships and how they affect and shape all of us. This knowledge allows me to walk alongside and guide my clients in their journeys towards wholeness of self and wholeness of their relationships.

Is your teen struggling? Are they worried, anxious, or depressed? Maybe they're just moody. Maybe this is just a phase. Is this what you've been telling yourself? I have been working with teens for years inside and outside of the counseling setting. The teenage years can be tough. It's a time of major development in the brain and lots of hormonal and bodily changes. This can cause teens to react in many different ways.

I have worked with children, teens, and adults with a variety of problems like families involved with CPS, parenting skills, mental illness, addiction treatment for individuals & their families, unemployed individuals (career counseling), depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, anger issues, bullying,
marital
problems, self-injury, abuse, grief, & many more.
There is not a specific type of therapeutic style or approach that works for everyone: age, ethnicity, all of this may play a part into stressors and how we cope with them. Therefore, the services are built around the individuals or family needs, focusing on strengths and values. I believe there is nothing we can’t overcome and the first step is seeking the help. Therapy is about acquiring the tools we need when faced with adversity. If you’re reading this, then you’re already on your way to change. Life is full of challenges, struggles, and stressful situations. WE have all been there before.

I am currently co-owner of a private practice named Balance Beacon in Bedford, TX, where we also work with individuals, families, and
marital
/couples struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma (PTSD), and sex therapy.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) who believes in internal power and strength. It may feel like internal power and strength is non-existent because there are times when situations and circumstances seem to get the best of life. A way of escape may be to indulge in unhealthy habits (such as substances) that make things worse. This is where I can be of assistance because I work with individuals struggling with addictions (ages 18-65). If you need help in this area, therapy can be scary but courageous and a necessary step for you.

How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
