Got faith? Most of us struggle with the obstacles and challenges and we are in search of solutions. These struggles can be within yourself or within your relationships with those closest to you. The solutions that we try do not always work because we are looking in the wrong places. With faith in God, we can find the answers together.

I feel that therapy shouldn't be scary or too formal, but instead easy like casual conversation. A session can be a fun, safe place where it's ok to laugh. There is sometimes a stigma surrounding therapy because of the idea that one must have something "wrong" to need therapy. Sometimes goals or ideas or feelings that seem like mountains to overcome or attain are most easily traversed by simply talking things out with someone who has an outside view of the situation. As a counselor, my ultimate goal is to assist every individual with becoming their own best advocates and working towards self-accountability.

If you’re feeling emotionally exhausted, disconnected, or stuck in painful relationship patterns, you don’t have to keep carrying it alone. Life can feel overwhelming when trauma, relationship stress, or emotional wounds begin affecting how you see yourself and connect with others. Many of the women and couples I work with feel anxious, emotionally drained, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward—especially after experiencing betrayal, emotional abuse, chronic conflict, or long-standing patterns of people-pleasing. I offer a safe place to heal, rebuild, and regain your sense of self...

My dream is to help individuals, families, couples, or groups of people who are struggling with mental, emotional, or physical health concerns. I want to work with clients to identify the causes of their problems and create plans of action and goals to address those problems. I am a therapist with real-life experiences, and with these experiences, I help my clients gain perspective that will help them regain dignity and ease of mind and belief that through therapy, life has treasures that they have not seen yet due to the haze of mental health issues.

You might be feeling... Overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted. Stuck in patterns you can’t seem to change. Disconnected from yourself, your relationships, or your purpose. Like you’re “functioning,” but not really living. You're ready for a change, and... You don’t need a one-size-fits-all approach. You need therapy that fits you. My clients include Individuals, couples, professionals, students, parents, and others who at least 14-years-old and are seeking change.

Kandis Snowden is a Licensed Professional Counselor. lt's challenging to go into a fancy office and speak with a stranger in a world with so much stigma regarding help for our mental health. My heart desires to make you feel safe and welcome. I offer a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, like sitting on the porch. By caring, we allow growth, healing, and change to occur—a place to sit on a porch where anything can be said and not held against you. If you want to understand the past or want to discuss the future; there is nothing that good ol’ porch therapy cannot do.

Life can feel overwhelming at times. Whether you’re navigating big changes, coping with loss, managing anxiety, or simply trying to keep up with daily stress, it’s easy to feel stuck or alone. In those moments, having a warm, nonjudgmental space to sort through your thoughts and emotions can make all the difference. I enjoy working with individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, relational or peer issues, life transitions, and couples or marriage concerns. I also have experience supporting teens and hold a special interest in working with parents of children with special needs.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, (1943), "The Theory of Human Motivation", reads: if a person’s basic needs (food, shelter, physical/mental safety) and social needs (love, belonging, self-worth, sense of purpose) are not fulfilled, that person will experience frustration and will “pivot” on a level of need that appears easiest to satisfy. Which level of need are you "stuck" on? Are you bound by anxious, fearful and mind-binding thoughts? Freedom is a goal that can be attained.

Whether you are a teen struggling with adjusting to a new school or changing peer relationships, a college student facing a ticking clock demanding you choose a major, a young professional dealing with navigating the change from youth to adulting, or even an individual dealing with divorce or relationship concerns, I can help. All of these "normal" life changes can be accompanied by feelings of worry, stress, and anxiety that hinder our ability to progress as we need. Therapy is a wonderful means of working through the "noise" caused by anxiety, worry, and stress and dealing with the root of the issues you are facing.

I support individuals navigating deep loss and those struggling with unmanageable sexual compulsions that feel overwhelming or out of control. You may be grieving the death of someone you love, including the loss of an infant or child, or living with the quiet ache of anticipatory grief during serious illness. Or you may feel caught in cycles of shame, secrecy, or disconnection around sexual compulsions. Whatever brings you here, you are not alone. I offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental space to process, resolve, and move toward hope, connection, and lasting change.

How can I find a therapist in Howard County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
