Navigating the mental health world and finding a good therapist can be challenging, especially when you are trying to find someone that gets you and acknowledges your culture and background. I commend you for taking the first step in your healing journey. Do some of these sound familiar? You recognize the importance of healing generational trauma; you want to enjoy the present-moment however, your mind gets stuck in the past or the future; you want to create meaningful connections, but you end up sabotaging your relationships; you want to embrace your culture and traditions while recognizing unhealthy generational patterns .

Does a basic discussion turn into an all-day argument? Do you feel like you are in a relationship with a stranger? Do you feel like identifying and eliminating unhealthy behaviors from your relationship seem impossible? Relationships, regardless of what kind, are the responsibility of both parties involved. Each relationship has its own fingerprints and no two are the same. I help couples and individuals identify and resolve the underlying cause of their conflict whether it’s current or historic. I believe relationships can be saved and flourish as both parties understand the role they play in the relationship’s success.

I am in-network with UHC, Aetna and Cigna.
A lot of times, life doesn’t give you a warning before it makes a major shift. One day you’re managing, and the next everything feels overwhelming – anxiety is loud, emotions are heavy, and “life be life-ing”. Often, this can make a person feel like it’s all just become too much, and this can show up in your life in ways that impact your inability to sleep, your racing thoughts, feeling sick to your stomach, or simply feeling unmotivated. I have found that all individuals who feel this way just need a safe place to let it all out – name it, vocalize it, and cry it out if they have to.

You are capable of developing emotional resilience and self-confidence to enable you to thrive. It is my belief that everyone deserves to live an enjoyable life with intention as their genuine self.

I want to help people develop hope for their lives and build on that foundation. I desire to facilitate healthy relationships mentally, spiritually, and intimately. I am an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist. A patient can expect me to be a genuine, empathetic, and non-judgmental partner (PCT), working collaboratively with them to identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. Patients often highlight the unique value of a shared cultural understanding and the resulting ability to feel completely authentic and understood without having to constantly explain their experiences.

Have you been feeling exhausted and weighed down with daily stressors and obligations? Have you noticed you are sad more often, isolating, or not having interest in things you once loved. So many people have been gravitating towards therapy, but you might wonder if it will work for you. You might also think therapy has to be long-term, which might not work for you and your busy schedule. Therapy can be short term and geared toward finding solutions to your specific problem. I would love to help you explore those feelings and hopefully get you to a better place, a more satisfying place.

My treatment method involves helping you gain insight, take action, make changes, and accept if change is not possible. I will help manage your struggles as well as help you through the normal stressors that often accompany transitions in life. Maybe it is the hurt you feel after a separation, the emptiness you feel when your children leave home, the grief you feel from the loss of a loved one, or the stress from the unbearable work demands. Whatever the cause, I help with the skills needed to either change the situation and/or the way you think about it.

Keeping therapy affordable, I am in-network for Aetna, United Healthcare and Optum.
My more than 35 years in clinical practice gives me skills that only come with experience. As a therapist who has done my own fair share of healing work, I see adults of all ages regarding a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, life transitions, life stressors & identity exploration. I like to work with people to help them create the kind of life they want to live. With my more than three decades of experience, I've worked with a wide variety of additional types of issues. So it's almost as if I've heard just about every type of issue that might exist.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
