I specialize in working with transgender and non-binary folks, and with people navigating relationships, building confidence, or wanting to engage in the arts as part of therapy.
As an expressive arts therapist, I often integrate play and creative expression into therapy. We can create a D&D character who represents your inner critic or use visual art, movement, music, writing, or role-play in our work. I also integrate somatic approaches like IFS informed therapy and brainspotting to support with processing trauma and stuck issues.

When seeking care, nothing is scarier to transgender and non binary folx than winding up with a provider who is poorly informed about the issues that face our community.
I am a Latinx, neurodiverse, nonbinary trans guy and gender affirmative therapist. My personal experiences and professional work have allowed for the development of a nuanced understanding of gender and sexuality and everything that goes along with this.

My experience working with transgender folks began in 2007.
You don’t have to carry the weight of it all alone. Whether you’re struggling with persistent anxiety, working through trauma, navigating depression, or seeking support around gender identity or dysphoria, I offer a safe, affirming, and nonjudgmental space where healing can begin. Therapy is not about “fixing” you — it’s about uncovering your strength, rediscovering your voice, and finding balance in a world that can often feel overwhelming. I use a trauma-informed, client-centered approach grounded in compassion and collaboration. I draw from evidence-based modalities such as EMDR to meet you where you are.

I specialize in working transgender and non-binary youth and their families on matters related to gender identity.
My approach to therapy is based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). A core idea in ACT is that trying too hard to get rid of or control our emotions tends to backfire. Instead of trying to get rid of unwanted thoughts and feelings (e.g., anxiety & depression), I will help you learn to react differently to them so that you can keep your focus on living a meaningful and fulfilling life based on what’s important to you. We will work together to set meaningful goals to address your concerns–whether they relate to life transitions, depression, anxiety, body image, grief/loss, job or academic stress, or gender & sexuality.

I hold a PhD in Clinical Sexology, dual certification as a Sex Therapist (AASECT & IICS), and certification as a Queer and Transgender Affirming Professional
Finding the right therapist is sometimes the hardest part of the counseling process. The challenge of matching a therapist's personality and approach to counseling with a client's needs can sometimes feel like trial and error, but is a vital part of the process. I believe that the start of any new relationship, therapeutic or otherwise, begins with building rapport and simply becoming comfortable with each other. Once established, the real work can begin.

We treat mood disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, family dynamics, LGBTQ issues including coming out, consensual non-monogamy, transgender support, and working through internalized shame.
First of all, I am so glad you are here. For real. No matter how many profiles you’ve read through on PsychologyToday or how many TikTok therapists you’ve taken advice from while putting off seeing a therapist yourself (I’ve done it…), I am thrilled you’re taking the next step. ThErApY SUCKS!…… not really, but it can be hard. And we can help! If you've been overwhelmed by making changes, dealing with the past, worrying about the future, and keeping things swept under the rug, we can help.

Transgender Therapists

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
