Childhood
sexual abuse
can leave you feeling powerless, unheard, and unseen.
Your child has been sexually abused and your world has been turned upside down. You are angry. Horrified. And feeling betrayed. You're trying to manage your feelings while supporting your child and it's leaving you feeling overwhelmed. Your child won’t talk to you about it and they're struggling. You are desperate for help for your child. Or you may be an adult who’s experienced childhood
sexual abuse
and blame yourself for all the things that happened to you that you couldn’t control. You’ve spent years blocking it out, pushing it down, trying not to think about it or talk about it. But you can only avoid it for so long.

You know all too well that life, although beautiful, comes with its fair share of pain. Pain is messy, and uncomfortable, so if you’re anything like most of us, you’ve also perfected the art of avoidance as your way to cope and keep moving forward. That’s just “life”, right? But what if this isn’t how you were meant to live? What if the deep pain that you’ve experienced, and all the suffering that comes with it, isn’t something you’re meant to carry around? I help empower clients to address their pain and begin their journey of healing.

Overcoming anxiety and depression and healing from
sexual abuse
can change your life.
Have you been holding back on therapy because you worry it will be boring or filled with a whole bunch of advice you don't want? Don't worry! Therapy doesn't have to be like that. In fact, I believe effective therapy should feel engaging and light-hearted. Don't get me wrong - therapy is hard work, especially when you have something traumatic to unpack. Together, we'll sort through those issues and work toward the healing you deserve while leaving space for creativity and playfulness along the way. We'll also be able to do so much great work all from the comfort and security of your home, which is why I love video therapy.

Do you suffer from trauma, due to
sexual abuse
, abusive relationships, unresolved childhood trauma, and generational trauma? We hold on to that trauma in their Physical bodies without knowing. This and the emotional trauma an individual endures shows up in our lives even when the action is over. Every relationship romantic or otherwise is affected as well as how we show up in our lives with work and other activities we take on. This can show up in an abundance of ways. Deep down we know something is off and want to heal and show differently however we don't know how.

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
