Howdy! Congrats on beginning your counseling journey! One of the biggest predictors of success in counseling is the strength of the relationship with your therapist. My style is equitable and focuses on that relationship, with previous clients saying that my humorous, warm approach to therapy put them at ease quickly. This fast ease paired with my constant devouring of new research creates consistent and powerful results for my clients, often soon after beginning. There is no power hierarchy here: I bring an expertise in mental health and you bring an expertise in your life. We need both for a successful counseling experience!

Whether you’re opening your relationship, exploring ethical non-monogamy, or part of an established polycule, it can be hard to find support that truly understands the nuance of your relationships. Add in being LGBTQ, kinky/BDSM, or a person of color, and that search becomes even more challenging. As a certified poly and ENM therapist, I can help you and your partners build trust, clarify agreements, enhance intimacy, and deepen connection, so you can experience love authentically and in all the ways that feel true to you.

My therapeutic approach is holistic and Self-driven, honoring the sacred nature of mind, body, and spirit. My focus is leading you back to Self. You are your own expert! Our upbringing often severs us from a natural understanding of ourselves, and I aim to bring people back to internal and external balance. Healing trauma and its effects on the mind and body is my main focus. If oppression against your marginalized identities has not been appropriately explored in therapy, or if recent political and global events have activated deep fears, it is also my priority to maintain a sacred space for witnessing those wounds.

My ideal clients are ready to step into deeper intimacy—with themselves and with others. They may be navigating challenges with desire, communication, or sexuality, and they often carry shame, stigma, or silence around pleasure. Many come to me during seasons of transition—ending relationships, starting new ones, or redefining who they are—and want a safe space to process those changes.

You’re stuck. Sex feels tense, distant, or gone. Maybe you’re in a long-term relationship. Maybe you’re opening things up. Maybe you’re already poly/ENM and the agreements aren’t working anymore. Desire is mismatched. Feelings are bruised. Conversations keep looping. “I often work with adults in long-term relationships who want more honesty, more erotic aliveness, and fewer eggshells.” In our work, we slow things down. We name what’s happening, what you want, and what’s possible. We build clearer agreements, better conversations, and a sex life (and relationship structure) that fits you. No shame. No one “right” way.

Open Relationships Non-Monogamy Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a therapist specializing in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

A client seeking help with an open or consensually non-monogamous relationship will prefer to talk with a professional whom they can count on to be nonjudgmental. Talking with a supportive therapist may on its own help relieve some of the stigma and challenges partners face. That said, the most important factor in the success of any type of therapy is the ability of the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond. For this reason, an individual or couple could find success with a therapist who does not specialize in non-monogamous relationships but with whom they can build trust.

When should open or consensually non-monogamous partners seek counseling?

Like other couples, polyamorous partners typically seek counseling when they face relationship challenges they can’t solve themselves. In non-monogamous relationships, this could include breaches of trust, including infidelity; unclear rules or violations of boundaries; jealousy of outside partners; the stress of juggling the needs of multiple partners; or the effect of high partner turnover on children. Like those of other couples, polyamorous bonds can be threatened by increasingly frequent arguments, poor or dysfunctional communication, diminished emotional or physical intimacy, or the feeling that something is wrong, even if they don’t know what it is.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

No, but individuals seeking help with non-monogamous relationships would most likely consult a licensed professional with specific training in couples counseling or couples therapy. Couples counseling and couples therapy both involve teaching concrete strategies to navigate conflict in relationships. A good therapist can engage both partners as they explain these approaches but can also work with a single partner.

How long does therapy for consensually non-monogamous couples typically last?

Couples therapy for any type of couple, tends to be relatively time-limited, lasting around 12 weeks on average. A good therapist will tailor sessions to the individual partners’ emotions and sometimes their past, along with patterns found to be repeating in the relationship. In many cases, clients should expect their therapist to assign “homework” between weekly sessions.
