I work with clients dealing with anxiety/depression, and also an area of specific focus is men's issues , and image repair.
Sometimes, we are overwhelmed with trials or life-events, that may become chaotic life stressors, or an issue that seemingly stunts our growth. Many individuals wrestle with these life incidents that by design cause mental and/or emotional affects that manifest outwardly. Living a life with mental wellness, and emotional stability allows us to comfortably build self-confidence, and face life challenges. In therapy, it is important to build a supportive, nonjudgmental, and an emotionally-safe environment for clients to explore and work through their concerns.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, shame, men's issues , and relationship issues and focus on young adults and adults.
Navigating transition and uncertainty alone can be daunting and generate fears that keep us stuck. We can feel trapped in our heads, and whether change is something we are actively pursuing or is a condition we feel is forced upon us, it can be difficult to find a way out, especially all on our own! Therapy can be a place to unburden ourselves and share our minds with someone who can provide an outside perspective and help us move forward with purpose. It can also be especially helpful for people who struggle with vulnerability and shame and provide a safe space to express and process emotions and struggles.

My specialties include LGBTQIA+-related concerns, early childhood trauma, relationship concerns, men's issues , shame, anger, depression, anxiety, and work-related concerns.
The most common phrase I hear when I ask new clients to describe themselves is "not good enough." As a result of invalidating life experiences, many of us come to believe that we are undeserving of acceptance. In order to avoid potential rejection, we hide aspects of our identities that others might view as unacceptable, and we present a fragmented or incomplete version of ourselves to the world. While this can be advantageous in some environments, it also can become a barrier to intimacy. Many of my clients struggle to be vulnerable and find it challenging to embrace their full, authentic selves.

Life is complex, and at times, it is also overwhelming. You may feel stuck, or as if you are caught between two or more strong forces pulling you in different directions. I believe that therapy can be a potent, collaborative process in which we can work together to untangle the different components of your concerns, to sit in tension with these components without becoming overwhelmed, and to restore peace in your life. I enjoy working with all issues affected by social identities, such as gender and sexuality, and I specialize in men's issues .

Choosing to seek out therapy is oftentimes a difficult decision to make. It might seem a bit scary due to the unknowns and/or myths you might have heard about it. However, the decision to begin therapy is actually a courageous first step and a demonstration of your strength. As a therapist, it is my job to celebrate your decision to begin therapy and encourage you to engage in this process. Clients frequently present to therapy with anxiety, relationship issues, depression, family issues, identity concerns, trauma, and/or other types of life challenges.

For over 20 years in psychology, social services, & education, I've supported teens & adults who seek to overcome anxiety/depression, trauma, self-esteem issues, men's issues , family & relationship issues.
Growing up in Chicago, I learned quickly that life is happening to all of us whether we like it or not. This laid the foundation of my belief that we are all placed here on purpose, with purpose. Everything, past, present, and future, is designed to lead us to our purpose. I have chosen to follow the call on my life to help others, like yourself, examine the lessons of the past & (re)discover parts of themselves that will lead them to living a more purpose-filled life.

I believe our relationships as human beings are the most precious and important part of our lived experience. We learn, evolve, thrive, and are hurt in the context of our intimate relationships. Helping you understand your relational patterns - their functions and dysfunctions - is where there is optimal potential for growth and mental well-being. While I have a unique focus on concerns with sexuality and sexual intimacy, I have expertise in helping resolve challenges in multiple areas of one's interpersonal life. These include significant familial, social, and professional relationships. Improve your relationships, improve your life!

Have you ever felt seen? I mean really seen. Seen for everything you are. The rawness that comes with that. It makes us feel alive. Energy to engage, energy to connect, energy to contribute. I want to help you become a reflection of your highest self. I want to help you get to know you. I want to weather the storm of life with you, be there to see you in your most exquisite moments but also in your most broken. My biggest takeaway from therapy was how crucial the therapeutic relationship is: so much more work, growth, & healing can be done when you feel safe with your therapist, when you feel they really see you and understand you.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
