Cultivating and maintaining meaningful connections is an important key to well being.Disconnection often occurs as the result of relationship challenges, difficult losses, interpersonal struggles and addictive patterns. In addition, shame is often associated with interpersonal struggles and may be at the root of many psychological issues including depression and anxiety. My training includes an internship and post-graduate fellowship at the Menninger Clinic, Professionals In Crisis Unit. I have also completed specialized training in couples therapy, shame resiliency and mindfulness-based treatment for depression and anxiety.

You’re exhausted from trying to fix yourself. You can explain your problems, but you still end up spiraling, shutting down, snapping, or going numb. Work, relationships, and your own expectations keep piling on—and you’re sick of living in survival mode. You want relief, yes… but more than that, you want control over your choices again, not your anxiety running the show.

Life is challenging in 2025. Many of us learn to worry incessantly and criticize ourselves. Many of us battle anxiety and depression. Many of us are looking for answers, acceptance and validation. The search for serenity can leave us exhausted and bewildered. The pressures of a modern life can lead to loneliness and sadness. Fortunately, we do not have to face life's most daunting moments alone.

I believe that God intended for all of us to experience healing, and designed our minds to heal when given the right support. Because everyone is unique, my approach with you will look different from my approach with anyone else, as you deserve help that is tailor fit for you and your needs. I've helped many children and adults to create lasting changes that have improved their lives, and I'd love to provide you with the same support.

Hello! I am Dr. Reginald K. Riggins. I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I am originally from the south side of Chicago with over ten years of experience in the mental health space. Participating in therapy is the greatest investment you can ever make for yourself. When you learn how to improve your thinking, behavior, and emotional well-being you create a better version of yourself. The process of healing is not easy but it is so worth it once you reach the mountain top, stare down and see how far you've come. It would be an honor to take that journey with you.

ADHD isn't just about work and school; it's about what you thought were failures or believing that you're lazy or stupid. In reality, you may be one of the hardest working people you know. Procrastination, lateness, disorganization and typ0s are not character flaws. They are symptoms. Many teens, college students, and adults I work with struggle with motivation, self-esteem, anxiety, time management, and depression. They are intelligent, capable people trying to navigate a brain that works differently. Therapy can help you move from self-criticism and exhaustion toward greater clarity, confidence, and self-acceptance.

My "ideal" client would be a child or adolescent (even adult) who has experienced some form of trauma — whether from abuse, neglect, loss, family instability, or other adverse experiences. I feel this area especially resonates with me and through my current work with foster children, it is in these moments where I strive to provide a sense of empowerment through reshaping their internal narratives.

Everyone carries invisible roles and stories shaped by family, culture, and survival. Often, these internal patterns are so familiar that we mistake them for who we are. Maybe you’re the one who holds it all together—or the one who quietly pulls away. Maybe anxiety, ADHD, or a deep sense of disconnection makes it hard to feel present, seen, or in control. At some point, what once helped you cope begins to limit you. Therapy offers a place to slow down and begin to listen differently—to yourself, your relationships, and your emotional life.

My journey with mental health started early. I was always an anxious kid, but in sixth grade it went to a new level— constant worry about my health, my words, whether I was a good person. I was diagnosed with OCD, started therapy, and learned to face my fears. That experience lit a fire that never went out— a deep, personal interest in OCD and anxiety that became my career. Along the way, I also noticed something else: a lot of men were struggling quietly. Loneliness, difficulty finding meaning, a general malaise alongside— deep down— a shining hope of becoming. I wanted to help with that, too.

First of all, we are so glad you are here. No matter how many profiles you’ve read through on Psychology Today or how many TikTok therapists you’ve taken advice from while putting off seeing a therapist yourself (I’ve done it…), we are thrilled you’re taking the next step. ThErApY SUCKS!... not really, but it can be hard. And we can help! If you've been overwhelmed by making changes, dealing with the past, worrying about the future and keeping things swept under the rug, we can help.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
