My services include psychological and psycho-educational assessment for children and adolescents. This can include assessment for psychological concerns, such as hyperactivity, inattention, anxiety, depression, and Autism. Assessment for psycho-educational concerns involves intellectual testing (or IQ), which examines cognitive processes, as well as achievement testing to investigate reading, writing, and math. Through Psycho-educational testing we can investigate academic concerns, such as learning problems and dyslexia, as well as developmental concerns, such as intellectual and developmental disabilities. We offer counseling too

Whether healing long-term, issues or learning new patterns for better coping, I look forward to partnering with you & supporting you in creating and living the life you want.
A favorite saying of mine is "CHANGE... It's One of Life's Only Constants..." Change often signifies growth. Changes often move us from our comfort zone and may trigger stressful or distressing thoughts, behaviors, emotions or physiological responses. Our responses are often unconscious. Except we consciously recognize increased discomfort, pain or unproductive functioning in our daily roles and relationships. If you or a family member are experiencing any social, emotional, mental or behavioral difficulties causing distress & preventing enjoying life or realizing your or their full potential in personal, work or school functioning, I invite you to call me.

If you or a loved one are struggling at work, school, or in relationships, a psychological assessment may be an important first step in any intervention plan. I have over 15-years experience in evaluating children, adolescents and adults with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, personality disorders, psychosis, trauma (physical and psychological), and learning disorders . I aim to help a person, his or her family, and/or outpatient treater to better understand the core issues, specifically those issues that are getting in the way of a person functioning productively in school, work, interpersonally, and/or emotionally.

Feeling better can mean different things for different people. For some, it may mean learning how to live with or without someone or something…whether it be a person, a pet, or something sentimental. For others, it might mean a time in their life of learning how to live in the present while navigating the path forward to learning how best to honor or understand their past. At times, we all feel wounded or slighted by life. It is the path we choose that can either mend those wounds to help us heal or harbor wounds that eventually harm us. Through the path of counseling, we can learn to lead a more purposeful and healthier lifestyle.

I specialize in the psychological and developmental assessment and therapeutic intervention for pediatric emotional and behavioral health issues, learning disabilities, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorders, and intellectually gifted/'twice exceptional' children.
Children express a uniqueness, a resiliency, and zeal for life. It can be extremely difficult as a parent when your child has lost some of this spark and often you start by seeking answers. Rest assured, I am someone who will be able to really appreciate your child’s strengths while also giving you the clarity and the practical recommendations you are looking for to help your child succeed at school, home, and within their social lives.

I have had the pleasure of learning so much about people to strengthen, encourage and educate others during life’s most challenging seasons.
So many people bombard us with cliches like “Life is what you make it” or “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” when the unexpected happens or we lose control of situations and ourselves. Not only does this usually make us feel worse and/or not heard, we usually do not know what those sayings even mean. I’m sure people typically mean well when using these phrases, however, we need practical remedies to the “cards we were dealt” in our personal lives. It’s rare that the average person listens to us, validates us, AND helps us process what’s happening so that we can wholeheartedly move on.

My approach to therapy is learning your story and collaborating on what relief or success looks like for you.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. At this point in your life, you could be thinking “something isn’t working.” Or, sometimes, “nothing is working.” Maybe you don’t enjoy the activities that used to bring you joy. Perhaps your sleeping pattern has changed and you’re often getting little to no sleep. You have tried to make change on your own, but your attempts leave you stuck in the same place, frustrated, and hopeless; now you would like help.

You can find healing, wisdom, freedom, and empowerment by using new tools to notice and acknowledge your stories, understanding where they came from, and learning how to refuse to allow those stories to control your thoughts and actions.
Change, whether expected or unexpected, planned or unplanned, can disrupt our lives and make us feel off kilter, showing up as irritability, panic attacks, disrupted sleep, inability to concentrate, or problems with important people in our lives. Other times we simply feel "stuck." When reaching out to family or friends is no longer helpful, connecting with a professional can help. Even after years of trauma, mental illness, or abuse, you can still make a beautiful life for yourself.

I look forward to learning who you are and accompanying you on your healing journey.
Finding a therapist who feels like a good fit can be nerve-racking. I prioritize empathy and sincerity in my work and strive to provide an environment in which you feel safe to share your thoughts, feelings, and actions at your own pace and without fear of judgement. Themes we can work through together include: navigating interpersonal relationships, experiencing loss, coping with feelings of isolation, processing past experiences, confronting self-limiting beliefs, and exploring conflicting thoughts and feelings. We will use a collaborative approach to assist you in connecting with your own inner wisdom & meeting your goals.

Entrenched in research and results oriented, it is a place of discovery different from traditional treatments, a place of objectivity, of learning what perhaps has been passed down through the generations to create brain signatures and intergenerational struggles.
In my work, I want to understand your brain functioning, as well as how information flows. Perhaps your brain is functioning well but processing the information that comes in is a struggle. Or perhaps you have a peak performing brain in terms of how information is processed, but it is not functioning to its peak level. As a client, you have been to countless doctors, and therapists, as well as other types of treatment. And yet you STILL can't seem to get stabilized or feel like your life is on track. Medications might work a little - but really don’t seem to solve the struggle. and you just want to feel normal and feel GOOD!

I believe therapy should provide anyone the space they need to identify, process, and treat the problems they face in day to day life. We are all equipped with the tools we need to succeed and find wholeness - but sometimes even the strongest people need a little help working through challenges in life. Learning how to make choices that help you overcome difficult issues is my goal in counseling. As a former school counselor, I have experience working with children learn to deal with anxiety, anger management, depression, grief, and self-esteem. By providing a safe empathetic environment, we can build healthy coping skills.

My experience as an educator of children and adults with learning differences, intern at grief center and behavioral hospital, social worker in a hospice and The Woman's Hospital of Texas enhance my practice.
My client base is adult women. My areas of expertise are depression, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce, abusive relationships, parenting children with learning differences, life transitions, health issues, high risk pregnancy, end of life issues and death. My approach is supportive, insight oriented and empowering. Women often do not acknowledge their unique challenges and assign misplaced emotions and shame to their individual journeys. My goal is to help my clients heal, find meaning and strength in their experiences so that they can fully and authentically embrace the future.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
