Life, work, and relationships can be filled with many obstacles and challenges at times, leading one to feel stressed, discouraged, and overwhelmed. Experiences you have had may cause feelings of fear, depression, and a
loss
of direction. From these experiences, certain thoughts and perceptions may have developed that adversely affect your mood and behavior. I utilize a holistic approach from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Trauma Focused Therapy using a multitude of techniques to help clients reach their fullest potential.

Courage, compassion, curiosity, and vulnerability are key elements of discovery and practice throughout the therapeutic journey. My passion for counseling begins here: I prioritize and foster an honest, non-judgemental, open, genuine space and therapeutic relationship to best aid you with what your journey entails and encompasses. My work consists of supporting adults and teens ages 16 and up through complex trauma history and healing, navigating close and intimate relationships, unpacking major life transitions, intentional exploration of your identity and sense of self, or processing the unbearable
loss
of a loved one.

Are you experiencing a time of significant
loss
, stressful change, relationship difficulties or a daunting medical diagnosis? We all experience
loss
and change by virtue of experiencing life and engaging in relationships. I have learned that
grief
must be witnessed by someone who does not try to diminish the experience. Someone who can sit with the discomfort and honor those feelings without judgement. Someone who supports finding meaning and purpose amidst the transition. Someone who knows that it takes strength to make changes, courage to deepen or resolve relationships, and resilience to cope with life’s challenges.

Finding the right match between client and therapist is the most critical factor in achieving a positive treatment outcome. It takes a great amount of trust to form a therapeutic relationship. Compassion coupled with confronting unhealthy coping that one may not be aware of are keys to lasting change. My clients often report feeling not only understood, but also helped in understanding their struggles from another perspective. Together we explore unhelpful patterns while practicing healthier ways of being. Clients know my level of sincerity, knowledge and dedication fairly quickly as I believe genuineness is essential to good treatment outcomes.

When experiencing difficult times we may feel afflicted, crushed, perplexed, forsaken, or even destroyed. Sometimes it’s hard to see the way through or what the next steps should be. Sometimes we know what the next steps are, but don’t know how or if we have the strength to take them. The good news is you don’t have to walk these steps alone. Safely sharing with someone you can trust and who will listen without judgment can begin the healing process. I consider it an honor and sacred calling to figuratively walk with people during challenging times in their lives.

My specialties include play therapy, sandtray,
grief
, ADHD, anxiety, and depression.
Life can be challenging, and it can be difficult to know how to make it better. Having someone to help guide you through the challenges can make it less overwhelming. I believe in the power for every person to change their life if given the right roadmap to follow. I work with children, teens, and adults. The treatment approach used depends on the needs of the client. I use play therapy with children because play allows them to express themselves when they may not have the words to talk about their thoughts or feelings. I use traditional talk therapy and other approaches with teens and adults.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
