The world would have you believe that being superhuman is a pre-requisite to being a mom, wife, professional, a
woman
. While you try to do the best you can, are you often left feeling drained, anxious, self-conscious, irritable, or, at times, alone? Does talking to loved ones, friends, or partners make you feel guilty, unappreciative, or not quite giving you the clarity that you’ve looking for? Fortunately, you are not alone, as this is a very common feeling
women
experience. It is painful, affects our confidence, and often leaves us lost, not knowing where to turn.

The pressure of being a
woman
in today’s society can be challenging, even for the most successful. The idea that we have to “do it all” in order to “have it all” can be overwhelming. Each stage of a
woman
's life can present a different set of challenges. Are you struggling as you are entering into adulthood or find retirement to be a challenge? Somewhere in-between? Do you feel guilty because you chose a career over a family, or a family over a career? Maybe you chose both but feel you are not living up to your or everyone else's expectations? Do you feel like part of your life is missing but you are not sure how to find it?

I work with young professional
women
navigating their own version of the “quarter-life crisis” — primarily anxiety, relationship issues, and life transitions. My clients are typically high-functioning adults who have been pretty successful in certain areas of life, but are wrestling with challenges that might not be so obvious others (which can often feel incredibly isolating). I enjoy working with
women
who have a desire for personal growth and insight, are motivated to make changes around unhealthy patterns or relationships, and want to better understand how to navigate challenging life situations.

As a
woman
(and/or non-binary individual), navigating your life without proper emotional regulation can negatively impact your relationships, self-esteem, job/school performance and more.
Do you trust and accept who you are right now? Are you living with symptoms of anxiety and/or ADHD that prevent you from enjoying the life you deserve? Or maybe you're tired of watching others complete tasks that seem to take you forever to accomplish? There is no right or wrong answer, there’s only a journey. Part of your journey involves connecting with the best therapist for you to help move you from a place of overwhelm to a place of balance, confidence and sustainability.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
