violence, sexual assault, grief/loss, anxiety, depression, substance use, anger management, self-esteem, suicidal ideations, and co-occurring disorders.
I believe that individuals are unique; each possessing their OWN worldview, which, ultimately, would make you the expert of your own life. Sometimes in life, we need assistance in our journey towards the realization and fulfillment of our own talents and potentials: self-actualization. I assist my clients by enabling them to move towards openness, developing a greater trust in themselves, building the willingness to process, and increase self-realization. All while providing a non-judgmental environment where your personal life experiences are heard, and you are valued as the unique human being that you are.

Life is a beautiful gift and can be magnificent, however, it can also be challenging and difficult to navigate. For some, it brings stress, depression, anxiety, or trauma, etc. Trying to balance unhealthy thoughts, feelings, or behaviors with
family
, work, and school can quickly feel overwhelming. Therapy provides a safe and nurturing environment where a client can increase self-awareness and receive validation. I work with individuals, couples, and families processing difficulties, learning effective coping skills, and helping them grow and heal to improve their emotional health and well-being.

I have worked with adolescents and young adults since the beginning of my adult life. I find so much joy connecting with young people and being a supporter of adolescents and their families. I work well with adolescents and young adults that are neuro atypical as well as neuro typical. Therapy involves a personal connection, that I create with the client. My clients get to know me as I get to know them. We laugh and we cry together. We celebrate and mourn together. Many of my clients have experienced anxiety, depression, self harm, social issues,
family
conflict and school problems.

I work with children, teens, adults, and families struggling to handle the obstacles associated with ADHD, anxiety, OCD, depression, Autism, and other behaviors or life challenges. To meet the needs of my young clients, I incorporate several play-based modalities into my practice including Theraplay (parent & child), child-centered play therapy, and cognitive behavioral play therapy. With teens and adults, we accomplish much of the same work through cognitive behavioral talk therapy. For all of my clients under 18, I require regular parent and guardian meetings as a way to take a
family
systems approach in my care.

I am a Ph.D. Clinical Psychologist in the Heights for 20+ years, trained in cognitive-behavioral & psycho-dynamic approaches. If a deeper understanding of a problem is desired, a psycho-dynamic approach focuses on understanding past
family
and relationships and patterns allowing for self-growth. In practical issues of changing behavior and/or learning a new approach, a cognitive behavioral approach assesses desired behavior changes, obstacles and strengths to obtain goals. In both approaches, I ask questions in a safe and cooperative style that allows for new perspectives and growth. This is especially helpful in couples therapy.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
