The therapeutic process is a journey where both client and therapist learn and grow together. One of my favorite quotes from a colleague ‘we are like two birds in a nest learning to fly at the same time.’ This was how the therapeutic process was described to me during my time in school. I am a firm believer in continuity of knowledge throughout the lifespan.

Using EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, we process painful experiences while building regulation and resilience.
You might be feeling a little lost, struggling to maintain control of your ever-rotating list of tasks and responsibilities, and the stress you feel is spilling over into multiple areas of your life. You realize that you need a little help getting everything back in order. The overwehlming emotions you're feeling are impacting your personal relationships- you are struggling to create and keep emotional or physical intimacy; your patience is wearing thin leaving you feeling more easily agitated than you remember; you're having trouble holding healthy boundaries- and you know that a better version of yourself is possible.

I use EMDR, and mindfulness in sessions that are shaped around your unique needs.
I'm your go-to therapist for eldest adult daughters who look like they have it all together but feel anxious, exhausted or disconnected inside. You've always been the strong one - the fixer, the feeler, the one who keeps it all from falling apart. Maybe you're the oldest or only daughter, the one that carries everyone else's emotions, even when it's breaking you down. I help high-achieving women heal from trauma and PTSD, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Together we work to untangle the pressure, release the pain, and reconnect you with the version of yourself you actually like - the one who feels whole again.

I am licensed in Texas as a Professional Counseling - Associate and am trained in EMDR.
Hello! I enjoy working with family relationships, couples, and people in need of a change. My favorite part of being in the room is communication building in relationships, families, and couples; to discover and develop how a relationship can best communicate their needs with each other. When you work with me, I want you to leave my sessions feeling empowered and able to take that first courageous step. And then the next step. And then the next step after that. To someday be able to fully function as who you want to be and be equipped with the mental health tools for your life beyond working with me.

The journey to do emotional work is not an easy one. I have experienced my own personal work and growth in my life and can meet you in yours in therapy with compassion, vulnerability and empathy. Our life experiences can manifest in many ways and those trauma responses can morph into patterns that leave us feeling powerless and lost. We can be driven by unconscious primary emotions that keep us in a triggered and reactive cycle when we are seeking secure and loving connections. As a change agent and a connection expert, I can assist you in your ability to connect with others and thrive.

I often use CBT and EMDR in my practice.
People say lots of things about therapy. Some are flowery, some are complicated, some are just way out there. When we feel safe and secure enough to be honest with ourselves and others about what we are experiencing and what we truly value, we are more likely to be able to overcome challenges and live a more peaceful and fulfilling life.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
