I consider it a great privilege to help adults overcome the trauma of childhood abuse. Whether it be physical, sexual, and/or emotional in nature, the journey is difficult. I believe it is important to change fearful beliefs that others are to be mistrusted and that happiness is unattainable. Safe places are hard to find. I am diligent in creating a safe place in which a trauma survivor can heal. Sometimes the healing journey is long and painful. I am committed to "walk along beside" for as long as is needed.

Do you feel stuck? Are you tired of working so hard and feeling like nothing ever changes? As human beings, we are creatures of habit. The way we think, reason and relate are based on patterns that have developed throughout our lives. If you continue to think - alone - about your struggles, you'll likely remain stuck in the same patterns. As human beings, we are also relational creatures. We learn about ourselves when we are in relationships with others. It is essential for any person's growth and development to think - with - another person.

There are many types of trauma, and trauma is subjective. Trauma can happen to your body, mind, and spirit. It distorts our identity, causes us to doubt our purpose, and influences our sense of meaning. We feel unsafe, alone, unknown, and scared. Some of the most challenging types of trauma to overcome are pre-verbal or early childhood abuse/neglect and relational or attachment trauma. EMDR is a protocol allowing someone to reprocess trauma quickly and with minimal risk of retraumatization. Focus is given to maintaining psychological safety at all times, and you are in complete control of the process.

Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself? Do you find yourself trapped in negative patterns or caught in the grip of self-judgment, unable to break free? Do you feel like something isn’t right, or disconnected from your body or emotions, it can be hard to know where to begin. You're not alone—together, we can start the gentle process of healing and recovery. It may feel impossible now, but I often think of this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: "Do the thing you think you cannot do." By taking the step to reach out, you’re choosing to open the door to a safe, nurturing space where you will be valued and supported.

Have you found yourself overwhelmed by the weight of past trauma either from childhood abuse, intergenerational trauma, or sexual assault & feeling stuck with the memories playing out in your head? Or maybe you’ve been saying “I need to get back to my old self,” or “I’ve been dealing with a lot lately” & hoping for the insight or tools to change that? I work with adults & LGBTQIA folks just like you: ones that have it within them to thrive again after trauma & life challenges, but just need the support to tap into their strengths to get there or support gathering & sorting pieces of life to make sense of everything.

Sometimes, adverse experiences can block us from accessing the inner strengths we have used to cope in the past. My passion is assisting adolescents and adults in recovering from life stressors and transitional life changes. From a trauma-informed perspective, I utilize both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR to assist clients in their healing. I provide an open, safe, and non-judgmental environment and use a client-focused, strengths-based approach. My therapeutic style is empathetic and interactive as I learn about my clients’ strengths, the tools they have previously used, and what goals they wish to accomplish in therapy.

Existence; an intense struggle in a manmade world of suffering. Dissociative experiences and feeling unhuman is a response we can care for. Maybe you've gone through a profound trauma, such as psychosis or assault, and are looking for some way to pick up what feels like broken pieces. The goals my clients aim to achieve include fostering community and feeling connected to the liberation of all peoples, and sometimes it's just making it to the next day.

Feeling lost in the chaos of life? Struggling with bipolar, BPD, DID, or the tough stuff most therapists won’t touch? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Kick off your shoes, relax your feet, but let’s get real and talk ‘What’s tea?’ Therapy isn’t just venting—I’m not here for small talk. I have a laid-back vibe, but make no mistake—I’m here to challenge, teach, and help you grow with real change. No clichés, no endless “How does that make you feel?” My behavioral approach helps you break cycles, not just talk about them. If you’re ready to do the work, I’m here to help you reclaim control and transform—because you matter too.

I enjoy taking more of a holistic approach and getting to the root causes. Everything we do in life, from the people with whom we surround ourselves to the foods we consume, effects our mental health. Things from our past continue to have a significant impact on us as long as it remains undealt with and tucked away, but life does not have to be this way.

Many people with eating disorders have a history of traumatic experiences, but I also believe that the eating disorder is a traumatic experience itself. When we treat eating disorders, we are treating trauma. People with eating disorders are often very accomplished because they are so hard-working and caring, but I always find myself wondering, what more could their life hold for them in recovery? How much more could they enjoy their accomplishments and their lives? In addition to working with patients individually, I specialize in family based treatment, which helps families learn to support their loved ones' recovery at home.

Hello! I am Anne Marie Prewitt. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC). My philosophy of counseling is one of collaboration. You are the expert in your life. My goal is to work to understand your lifestyle and set therapeutic goals accordingly. My desire is for you to understand and embrace the beauty of your existence. You are enough just as you are! Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists

How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?

Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?

There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?

Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
