relationship
is paramount to me.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and I’m passionate about helping professional adults learn how to reclaim their time, implement healthier boundaries, learn positive coping skills, and improve their mood day to day. My general focus is Anxiety, women's issues and burnout. At Destination Therapy, the majority of my practice focuses on clients struggling to balance their roles at home, work and within their relationships. I also support clients in managing their anxiety or working through challenges they are facing relating to their identity, perfectionism or self-esteem.

It is paramount that the
relationship
between us feels supportive and serves as a container in which you can explore honestly, freely and bravely.
When I work with clients, I spend time understanding in a deep and connected way how you are experiencing your life. With support and non-judgmental curiosity, I will look below the surface. I may examine family of origin dynamics, core beliefs you hold about yourself and where you may have learned them, values you have and how your choices do or do not support them, and when and how you limit yourself or get in your own way.

There are times when we know that we need to make a change in our life. You might be noticing a quiet unrest, a consistent dissatisfaction, or the call to change may come through a life transition---a death, a loss, job or

stress, illness suddenly needing to care for elders or children moving home. The circumstances can vary, but the knowledge that change is needed is clear. My work consist of assisting, supporting, educating and guiding individuals &
couples
to search deep and work through the numerous
relationship
challenges, struggles or areas of growth they've chosen to work on in their
relationship
, such as going through a break-up, dealing with a divorce, infidelities, porn & sex addiction,
relationship
issues and anxiety.
Men and women continue to fall to the limiting scripts, schemas, mistaken beliefs, and toxic
relationship
behaviors surrounding relationships and intimacy. This has developed barriers to the gift of intimacy, attachment and a fulfilling, loving
relationship
. Intimacy is the ability accept and love your inner most self unconditionally, and the extent to then fully share oneself with another human being- fully. Therapy is about learning to love oneself. I offer a new level of emotional and cognitive wellness to individuals and
couples
.

I have extensive experience treating
relationship
concerns, anxiety and depression.
I am a Ph.D. Clinical Psychologist in the Heights for 20+ years, trained in cognitive-behavioral & psycho-dynamic approaches. If a deeper understanding of a problem is desired, a psycho-dynamic approach focuses on understanding past family and relationships and patterns allowing for self-growth. In practical issues of changing behavior and/or learning a new approach, a cognitive behavioral approach assesses desired behavior changes, obstacles and strengths to obtain goals. In both approaches, I ask questions in a safe and cooperative style that allows for new perspectives and growth. This is especially helpful in
couples
therapy.

From children, adolescents, to adults, we have served individuals,
couples
, and families with combined experience of more than 60 years.
The driving force that makes each therapy session successful is how hard my client works to achieve his/her goals. It takes a lot to seek therapy and the first step is the most difficult one. However, I believe in the innate power that my client has within him/herself to find a way, El Camino. My approach is client centered, but at times direct because I am not afraid to work on what may be difficult for you to face.

I also guide premarital
couples
as they explore expectations, build healthy habits, and establish a strong marital foundation.
You’re exhausted and worn out from the daily tasks of life, your relationships, and the emotions that feel all too heavy right now. You find yourself losing track of time, endlessly scrolling through the internet just to take your mind off things. You crave connection with those around you, but you feel like you would be a burden to those closest to you. On the inside, you battle with thoughts of all the ways that you do not measure up, and the feeling of never being good enough. You worry if people really want to love and know you for you. The feelings of anxiety, loneliness, depression, and stress feel closest to you.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
