I work with people from diverse backgrounds:
couples
, families, individuals and groups -either, in English or Spanish. Issues explored: relations, career, personal challenges, trauma and family dynamics; also, gender roles, power and control issues, inequality, intimacy, sexuality, conflict and self-awareness. I provide my clients with a friendly environment that facilitates exploration, and the possibility of seeing old patterns from a different angle; with deep respect, an interested presence, and a curious attitude about my client's point of view. I believe in the power of healthy relationships. Relationships can be transformed if we are ready to re-invent ourselves.

Trust your gut. Feeling stuck and unable to fully engage with your authentic self? Or do you find yourself engaging in repetitive behaviors that haven’t served you well and not sure why? Sometimes life experiences can cause us to second guess ourselves and lead us toward less than favorable situations. It happens to the best of us and as a Black and BIPOC therapist, I want you to know that it doesn’t always have to be that way. Often it’s helpful to have the support of a spiritual connection, friends and family. It’s also helpful to have a therapeutic
relationship
.

I help clients with:
Relationship
Concerns, Premarital Therapy, Women's issues and Sexual Concerns, Money Disagreements, Communication Skills, Parenting Challenges, Extended Family Conflict, Changes and Stress in Relationships, Self-Esteem, and Anxiety.
No one is given a guidebook on how to navigate relationships with others or with ourselves and this missing information often leaves us feeling unfulfilled, unhappy, and unstable. At each session, we'll set goals specific to your needs to work toward immediate changes.

I focus on concerns with relational and sexual wellness among Black Women &
couples
.
Our relationships with ourselves and important others are critical parts of our lived experience where we learn, evolve, and thrive. Unfortunately, many of us have experienced harm or trauma in our key childhood relationships that get in the way of us living authentic and joyful lives in our adult lives. Whether they serve us well or cause us pain, we repeat unhealthy patterns that reinforce the ones we learn in childhood. I help you understand your relational patterns to discover where there is optimal potential for growth and mental well-being.

I look forward to building a healthy
relationship
with you and using that
relationship
as a vehicle to assist you on your journey to health, wealth, success, peace, and a renewed mind and spirit.
So what IS therapy? Does it mean that I am crazy? Is something wrong with me? Will I be judged? No, no, and no. Despite what our peers may tell us or what we our culture has told us, therapy provides an opportunity to process your thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a safe place. It can be very instrumental in helping individuals work on resolving problems/issues, craft achievable goals, learn new patterns of thinking, and develop healthy strategies to cope with certain life challenges and difficulties in an effort to enhance overall mental health and well-being. There are just so many benefits to choosing therapy!

I enjoy working with
couples
and families in order to teach them communication and/or parenting skills.
It can seem difficult at times to seek help but it can also be the bravest move you make. Our stories are never finished and we can keep writing new chapters and going in new directions with a little bit of guidance. Whether we are stuck because of current stressors or struggling due to life-long obstacles, it is never a bad time to ask for help and work through them. My goals are to inspire clients to write a more meaningful story according to their values and beliefs.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
