I've always felt like a weirdo—or queerdo, if you will—and I want to be there for others who might feel the same. Working with LGBTQIA+ folks, those on the autism spectrum or with ADHD diagnoses, individuals managing trauma and its impact, those with depression and/or anxiety, and older adults who may be new to therapy or new to diagnoses of things like ADHD or autism is my passion. I’m Zac (they/them), a queer, nonbinary, neurodivergent therapist and creative. The power of connection, prioritizing things you enjoy, and staying curious—these are some of the values that guide sessions with clients.

Hi everyone! I understand, sometimes we need a mental break due to the stressful demands of life and responsibilities. Unhealthy relationships, a difficult upbringing, and current difficulties can all cause us to feel so overwhelmed that we become mentally confined. As I begin my path to become a counselor, I hope to assist others in managing their daily lives in order to build a more tranquil and productive experience continuing on.

I guide individuals who feel lost in their emotions and disconnected from their true selves to reclaim their joy, purpose, and sense of belonging. Do you feel disconnected from joy? Trapped in endless scrolling on your phone, unable to escape the overwhelming noise? Have you found yourself emotionally detached from relationships and experiences, struggling to show up for yourself? Life’s disappointments and past traumas may have left you feeling like the coping mechanisms that once worked no longer help. The weight of long-held beliefs about yourself, others, and even your faith, can make it feel impossible to move forward.

I believe healing and growth can happen not just in therapy, but through everyday activities—whether it's connecting with others, engaging in creative hobbies, or practicing gentle self-care. Human health is a holistic concept, influenced not only by diet, sleep, and habits, but also by our environment, social context, and generational legacy. I'm here to support you in finding what works best for your mental well-being.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
