anxiety
.
If you’re reading this, you might be considering change and I can also appreciate how you might still be on the fence about therapy. Uncertainty and change can be
anxiety
provoking. Maybe you’ve been hurt in previous relationships or have had a negative experience with therapy. Society teaches us to not talk about our feelings. Some of us are taught to sort through problems logically to find a reasonable solution or to push all struggles aside like they aren’t real. It can be difficult for us to be vulnerable and begin seeking help.

I work with children, teens, adults, and families struggling to handle the obstacles associated with ADHD,
anxiety
, OCD, depression, Autism, and other behaviors or life challenges. To meet the needs of my young clients, I incorporate several play-based modalities into my practice including Theraplay (parent & child), child-centered play therapy, and cognitive behavioral play therapy. With teens and adults, we accomplish much of the same work through cognitive behavioral talk therapy. For all of my clients under 18, I require regular parent and guardian meetings as a way to take a family systems approach in my care.

My passion for therapy started with a desire to support teens dealing with self-harm, depression, and
anxiety
. As a therapist, I have also gained experience working with adults facing self-esteem issues, trauma, difficulties with setting boundaries, communication challenges in relationships, and a lack of personal identity and meaning. I aim to empower both groups to find stability and confidence in their strengths. In today's uncertain world, I strive to help clients find their footing and navigate their future. I also offer faith-based counseling at the client's discretion and have experience addressing religious trauma.

We'll work together to quiet your racing thoughts &
anxiety
, kick self-doubt to the curb, set *realistic* expectations, and celebrate the badass womxn you are.
It's the middle of the night and your mind is racing. There seems to always be "one more thing" to do. You've always been so good at crushing your goals. But somewhere along the way, things just started getting harder. Self-doubt and
anxiety
make decision making seem almost impossible. You're responsible for so many things: your home, your work, your relationships. Sometimes, you may not even remember why you said "yes" to all these things in the first place. So here you are, overwhelmed, unsure, and doing everything you can to "keep it together." You put on your "brave face," hide how you're feeling, and hope no one notices.

Your story matters! Everybody has a story and everybody can create a new story. I love to help people find their passion again, beginning in this very moment. Depression and
anxiety
have to do with a fear of the future, past experiences, or being on the edge of the unknown. The antidote is to live fully in the present through mindfulness of breathing and/or centering prayer; accepting what is. I would love to accompany you in travelling safely and calmly through your life transitions. Whether you are an adolescent, adult, married, divorcing, single, a survivor, I would feel honored to hear your unique story.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
