Adoption Therapists in Houston, TX
Navigating the world around us, and in our current times, is tricky for a lot of us! I specialize in working with children and adolescents, as well as assisting the adults who love them in their parenting role. Every family system has strengths and struggles, and parents bring their own experiences (having once been children themselves!) which inform their parenting skills and feelings about parenting, now. Additionally, I also see adults for individual work, outside of the parenting role, and have assisted many adults in thinking through decisions on how to live their best lives.

I love serving clients who are ready to take their first steps for themselves. That might look like a woman who’s overwhelmed by parenting while trying to carry the weight of the world, someone battling the stories anxiety has etched into their mind, or a person ready to scream their truth but finding only a whisper escapes. I feel honored to meet you where you are, to sit with you, and to carry your story for a while as you move through your journey.

I have a special focus on working with individuals navigating: Trauma and PTSD, anxiety and burnout, adoption-related experiences and identity, and childhood or relational wounds
As both a therapist and adoption social worker, I bring a unique understanding of how early experiences and attachment impact your present-day life and relationships.
Maybe you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns you can’t quite explain. You might even feel like you should be fine… but something just isn’t settling. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to keep carrying it by yourself.
I specialize in EMDR therapy, a powerful, research-backed approach that helps your brain process and heal from distressing experiences so they no longer feel as intense or overwhelming. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works at a deeper level—helping you move forward, not just understand the past.

I specialize in relationships, helping individuals and couples create the love and connection they long for. You may love your partner deeply and still feel alone, unseen, or misunderstood. The same arguments keep repeating, attempts to reconnect end in distance, and emotional or sexual intimacy may feel strained. One of you may push for reassurance, closeness, or resolution while the other problem-solves, withdraws, or tries to keep the peace. Together, we uncover the deeper attachment patterns beneath these cycles and help you build a relationship that feels more secure, connected, emotionally alive, and able to hold both of you.

Life can be hard and sometimes has some twists and turns that weren't planned. Maybe you just found out that having a child the way you envisioned is not going to happen. Or maybe you feel alone and lost with this new baby in your home, almost like you don't know who you are anymore. I understand that taking the first step to come to a therapy session can be nerve wracking and uncomfortable since you don't know me yet, but I hope that in time you can feel that this is a safe space for you to open up and share.

I do not fix my clients but focus all my efforts toward helping them to fix or better manage their problems themselves. This is done through fostering client strengths.

Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
