Hi. I’m Irma. An easygoing type, that is kind and caring, with intellectual curiosity and waiting to help you break free. I'm also a nature girl. I love it! And my homework to you will be to go outside! I’d like to ask you a question: do you feel overwhelmed by the pressure that’s been put on you by others or yourself? It’s not like you can’t handle it, sometimes you even thrive on it…but right now, you’re feeling really tired. Work and personal life is beginning to collide and collapse and there’s an unwavering ache, always there, underneath everything. Currently, life is not the way you pictured.

My ideal clients are the ones who have been told they’re ‘too much,’ ‘too different,’ or who’ve never quite found a space where they belong. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate with a background in supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and I’m deeply passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, people healing from religious trauma, and those navigating life in multicultural spaces. I believe therapy should be a place where the misfits, the black sheep, and the outsiders finally get to breathe. If you’ve ever felt like the world wasn’t built with you in mind, you’re in the right place.

Issues don’t arise in vacuum, nor can healing happen in vacuum. I believe healing and growth can happen not just in therapy, but through everyday activities—whether it's connecting with others, engaging in creative hobbies, or practicing gentle self-care. Human health is a holistic concept, influenced not only by diet, sleep, and habits, but also by our environment, social context, and generational legacy. I'm here to support you in finding what works best for your mental well-being.

Therapy is not about "fixing", but rather reclaiming the lost parts of yourself that has been buried through stressful and difficult experiences in life. As part of the Asian-American community, I understand how the complex and deep rooted beliefs from our cultural backgrounds can have an effect on the way we are able to navigate through life, as well as the shame that might come with struggling with feeling lost, confused, stressed, depressed, anxious, and the crushing weight of societal expectations.

Therapy is a partnership that grows in an atmosphere of safety and acceptance. It allows one to rediscover the parts of selves which may have been disowned; to learn new skills to handle grief and distress; to build healthier, more nurturing relationships; and to gain access to one's own direct experience of the world. I nurture this collaboration with clients and recognize that within each of us there exists a deeper wisdom that, given adequate support, naturally moves toward healing and integration.

I am a white, genderqueer therapist who works with LGBTQIA+ adults and teens.
My counseling style is a blend of somatic mindfulness, parts work, and person-centered therapy. Basically, this means we talk about how it feels to live in your body as much as how it feels to live your life. Moving into body-based work can feel uncomfortable and scary, but is often the next step for folks who aren't getting what they need from talk therapy.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
