The following thoughts might show up in your life when ADHD , anxiety, depression, or trauma are a part of your life: I am broken. I am weird. I can't seem to get it right. Everything is a mess. I can't do this. No one likes me. What if I fail? It's my fault. I should have...I'll never be. If you are having these thoughts, you are not alone. You might think nothing you do makes a difference, but with the right tools you can win. You can get organized, be productive, feel good about yourself, achieve your goals, and build meaningful relationships at work and home.

Children, adolescents and adults with ADHD and Asperger's-type autism are areas of focus for my practice.
I work with children, adolescents and adults on a variety of issues. Most of my work is based on the principles of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My therapy plans are goal-oriented, with specific, measurable steps so that you can track progress. I will help you discover the "problem behind the problem" and then we'll work together to formulate solutions. I enjoy collaborating with my patients on many types of issues, but have quite a bit of extra training in working with children with ADHD and their parents, as well as with persons with Asperger's-type autism.

The world can be a tough place for neurodivergent folks. ADHD , autism, chronic illness, trauma, disabilities and mental health conditions can sometimes make meeting basic, everyday expectations feel exhausting. Struggling to keep up with the responsibilities and demands of life might leave you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, ashamed, lonely or embarrassed. Other people don't seem to understand why it's so hard for you and sometimes neither do you! You have many strengths, but it feels like they're buried under layers of self-doubt, frustration and burnout. You're not broken. Your needs are different. You deserve support. We SO get it.

I found an unintentional niche when I started my journey as a therapist. Most of my clients come in with very high anxiety and a disconnect from their bodies. While some truly only have anxiety, many more have discovered childhood trauma buried deep inside. My biggest surprise though was the amount of women I have seen come in with anxiety and together we have discovered undiagnosed ADHD . It has been my absolute joy to help these women understand themselves and learn to work WITH their brains and reconnect with bodies that often feel foreign to them.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
