I interned for a year at the Fort Bend Women's Center working with victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse ranging from toddlers through adults.
We created New Path, New Thought LLC with the intention of serving the community by sharing our passion for the healing power of play with adults, children, and families. I value authenticity, resilience, connection, and belonging. I strive to work with clients to create treatment plans to meet their therapeutic and life goals. Our holistic approach provides families with wrap around services empowering them to grow as individuals in addition to strengthening familial relationships through playful interventions and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR).

My client has difficulty with change and is unable to look at the positive side of things. Normally I see this in young adults feel are not reach their potential and are running out of time. The goal is to pay more attention to the things they already accomplish and prioritize life and recognize that sometimes life provides twists and turns out of our control. Teach the value of the ‘here and now’ to unstuck the mind and move forward; looking more at successes than failures without forgetting To use the latter as opportunities more than regrets.

Initiating therapy can be difficult. Even the first phone call can be very anxiety provoking. My goal is to help you discover changes that can lead to a better understanding of your life. Psychotherapy is a process that involves finding the real truth within one's self. With a compassionate approach we will be able to help understand the conscious and unconscious factors that are keeping you from enjoying healthy relationships, love, work, family and other life related experiences. I believe in being empathetic as well as mindful of clients during sessions so that you are able to achieve the goals that you want.

We aren't created to do this life alone. It's in relationship we experience connection and the process of renewal. I aim to create a personal, safe, and judgment-free environment that provides a soft-landing place to navigate life’s complexities. I approach each session with a spirit of gentleness and humility. It's an honor to be invited in and walk along-side you amidst this complicated life.

I believe that therapy offers a beneficial way to find a different perspective on difficult situations and that people who make the decision to see a therapist are looking for a way to improve those situations. We can always learn new ways to make our lives and relationships better. With empathy and compassion, I help clients find resolution to a wide range of personal concerns and psychological issues. I have worked at psychiatric hospitals, addiction residential facilities as well as outpatient settings and have over 25 years’ experience working with clients from a family systems approach.

Howard Thurman writes, "Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." My goal as a therapist is to partner with you on your journey and help you find what makes you come alive. Ask yourself this question: "Who could I be?" The person you could be is calling you forward out of who you have been.

I don't know what issue brought you here. I haven't met you. I'm not going to tell you what you need. I only know one thing about you: that you're here. So I will focus on that. The variations in our experience are so extraordinarily complex. I want to listen to yours, because that is where we can start. Then, I want us to work on your garden together, growing to seed the desires for your life that will blossom, even being enriched by the mud, if we nurture them with the right tools.

I'm so glad you're considering counseling. It means that, at a deep level, you know you deserve better and are capable of more. You may be troubled by persistent negative thoughts and feelings, dissatisfied with certain important relationships, or frustrated that the choices you've made are no longer working for you. Either way, I applaud you for taking this step. Through psychotherapy, we will explore one of the most important subjects in your life - yourself. And we will journey together towards a future that reflects your deepest values and goals.

Corey's therapeutic approach is goal driven and works to identify where his client wishes to grow and then, through careful collaboration, determine how it can be achieved. He works primarily with Reality Therapy, which emphasizes personal control of self, the ability for one to meet their needs in a healthy manner, and the acceptance that the actions one chooses are what makes up one's behavior. He is trained in EMDR and hypnosis and applies both in working with PTSD, trauma, anxiety, and for pain management from physical illness.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
