I integrate relational and psychodynamic approaches, along with other therapeutic modalities.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas and Colorado. I specialize in treating eating disorders, disordered eating, and challenges with body image. I also work with those struggling with anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I provide an environment in which clients feel safe and empowered to embark on their therapeutic journey. I believe it is important to start where the client is to facilitate lasting change. Therapy is a process to explore underlying meaning, behavioral patterns, and relationship dynamics in order to identify your most authentic and genuine self.

Welcome is how I want you to feel in therapy. I have nearly 30 years of experience to teach you skills to serve yourself and others. Motivated people address their mood disorders, trauma, work stress, past and present relationship/family problems to move forward. I use EMDR for trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness techniques together with psychodynamic psychotherapy. I learned to respect that most people know themselves deep down and may need a few new tools. We will create an atmosphere of kindness, introspection, humor, and good will in which to reach your goals. rebeccaburgmanlcsw.com

I tailor treatment to the client using a combination of Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Solution-Focused, Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
Do you wish that someone would listen to, understand, and see the real you? My priority is to create a safe space where you feel heard, valued, and encouraged to proceed at your own pace as we explore how past and present experiences may affect how you think, behave, and feel. In our work together, I will act as a guide walking alongside you on your journey of personal growth. I will help you identify and use your strengths to build resilience, work with you to clarify your goals, teach you skills, help you navigate difficult emotions, and consistently provide support and encouragement.

I use a combination of psychodynamic , relational/attachment, mindfulness and emotional-focused approaches, personally tailored to your needs/life circumstances.
Life does not discriminate -- it presents all of us with challenges, adversities, and opportunities. Sometimes going through difficult experiences allows us to emerge with a renewed sense of self and a fresh recognition of our inner strengths. But this kind of transformation isn't a given. Sometimes pain is unrelenting and pushes us to find new ways to cope and new avenues for understanding. Seeking help shows your courage and your motivation to find your way...

Welcome. I am glad you are here and appreciate you reading my bio. My therapy practice is for women who seek to resolve underlying issues that often cause high anxiety, depression and negative self talk. The women I see are often high functioning and have already overcome many obstacles in life. They may be at a transitional point with a relationship, family, health or career or be dealing with loss. They may carry the wounds from unmet childhood needs or past or recent trauma. They are ready to move beyond traditional talk therapy, make the commitment to face their issues and begin to heal.

Have you ever looked at your reflection and wondered who you are? Do you ever feel lost or wonder where you are headed? Confession- I have. I realized later in life that my calling was to become a therapist. Long before returning to college, I received on-the-job training through my own experiences as a mother, wife, friend, and as an individual struggling with depression and anxiety. These experiences helped prepare me for my role as a therapist. Just like my clients, I looked for a therapist to talk to, one who would listen and be able to understand where I was coming from.

Loss is common to the human experience. And yet, loss stemming from the death of a loved one or from a cancer diagnosis can be incredibly isolating and overwhelming. I know first hand what it is to experience profound loss, both as a three-time cancer survivor and one who grieves for irreplaceable people in my life. It is my great honor to offer trauma-informed, compassionate counseling for adolescents, adults, and couples in immense emotional pain who require a competent therapist to provide immediate support and understanding. I work collaboratively with clients, providing interventions aimed to bolster resilience and healing.

I offer an in-depth approach to my adult clients, and we work together to find the underlying reasons for behaviors, thoughts and feelings, such as anxiety and depression. Not every therapist is right for every client, so I am happy to answer any questions you have without obligation. I have training in dream analysis and in understanding a client's temperament, or personality type as well. In addition to treating a wide range of psychological symptoms, I also welcome clients with issues related to the second half of life, finding personal meaning in life, and spiritual issues.

During one of life's emotional and spiritual cross roads my passion and mission became crystal clear. Succinctly, it is to nurture those seeking peace, joy and harmony. Before, during and after difficult and traumatic life events you may need more than the support of family and friends for life resiliency and wellness. Holistic wellness can be pursued by interweaving a nurturing therapeutic, spiritual and safe relationship with other life enriching and healing practices.

At times we feel like we have no one to talk to who would understand our particular situation or life circumstance. That is where I come in. Age does indeed make a difference, especially when that person has experienced life in a multitude of locations, situations, and circumstances and landed on her feet, wiser, calmer, more understanding, and happier with life.

In a blink of an eye, you're now a parent of a tween/teen(s). Your child has become w/drawn, negative, loss of interest & enjoyment of activities they once enjoyed. There's a change in their sleep, eating habits, doing poorly in school, isolating from friends and family, showing risky or harmful behaviors, even possible suicide thoughts. Your child shares with you that they feel depressed, anxious and don’t want to go to school. You try asking them what’s wrong, just to be yelled, “nothing, you wouldn’t even understand. You turn to your partner for support just to find yourself feeling angry, emotionally overwhelmed, invalidated.

I have 17 years specialized training & experience in body-centered psychotherapies, working with trauma, post traumatic stress & moral injury. Neuroscience confirms trauma resides in the body; we know the body's wisdom guides the release of trauma perfectly with adequate safety, effective "witnessing," & mindful inner attention. Distressing thoughts, beliefs & social inhibition are the primary barriers to the body's ability to release trauma & re-wire the neurological system in a transformational process that decades of "talk therapy" could never accomplish. These powerful, highly effective interventions assure the debilitating effects of trauma are no longer something people must "live with."

Psychodynamic Therapists
Psychodynamic therapy, also known as insight-oriented therapy, evolved from Freudian psychoanalysis. Like adherents of psychoanalysis, psychodynamic therapists believe that bringing the unconscious into conscious awareness promotes insight and resolves conflict. But psychodynamic therapy is briefer and less intensive than psychoanalysis and also focuses on the relationship between the therapist and the client, as a way to learn about how the client relates to everyone in their life.
