My areas of counseling expertise include working with couples, as well as adolescent and adult counseling with a focus on depression, anxiety, anger management, and
family
relationship issues.
As a counselor I create a warm and supportive environment in which my clients can move from feeling stuck, isolated, and conflicted in some area of life to feeling more connected, motivated and successful. I specialize in working with children, teenagers and adults who are experiencing relationship issues, grief and loss, depression, anxiety and self-esteem issues. I believe in defining goals with my clients, exploring new ways of thinking about yourself and others and learning better coping strategies. My goal is to help my clients heal from past wounds and achieve their own definition of success.

NOTE: Tonya Hiland, LCSW is TEMPORARILY NOT taking new clients. I offer individual and group mental health counseling to children, adolescents and families. My primary goal is to assist the client in identifying strengths to improve personal growth and success. My therapeutic focus is strength-based integrated with various other therapeutic approaches (i.e. solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, etc.) depending on client need. Often the individual presenting issue actually lies within key relationships of client; therefore it may be necessary to schedule time with both the client and member(s) of the client's
family
system. This will only occur with client permission.

When I was growing up, asking for help was seen as a sign of weakness. We were raised to not go outside of our
family
system with our problems. No wonder I was well into my twenties when I realized that in order to be successful both emotionally and mentally in my life, I needed to learn how to trust others that were outside my
family
system. Only then could I to begin to heal. I have learned that isolation and recovery are mutually exclusive. Others provide objectivity, support, and a clarity that we can't achieve on our own.

During one of life's emotional and spiritual cross roads my passion and mission became crystal clear. Succinctly, it is to nurture those seeking peace, joy and harmony. Before, during and after difficult and traumatic life events you may need more than the support of
family
and friends for life resiliency and wellness. Holistic wellness can be pursued by interweaving a nurturing therapeutic, spiritual and safe relationship with other life enriching and healing practices.

Your
family
is unique.
I'm a relationship therapist who helps people learn to heal disagreements & enjoy being together. People are social creatures. We are meant to be connected. The problem is, we are sometimes not very good at communicating what we need/want. We misunderstand, misspeak & have unconscious reactions to triggers. We react out of fear, anger & pain. In short, misunderstandings & reactions get us into a world of hurt! My job is to slow everything down-to think about problems differently, look for patterns & help find the "why" under the "what". We can work to redefine relationships as safe/dependable & build new ways of being together.

Welcome is how I want you to feel in therapy. I have nearly 30 years of experience to teach you skills to serve yourself and others. Motivated people address their mood disorders, trauma, work stress, past and present relationship/
family
problems to move forward. I use EMDR for trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness techniques together with psychodynamic psychotherapy. I learned to respect that most people know themselves deep down and may need a few new tools. We will create an atmosphere of kindness, introspection, humor, and good will in which to reach your goals. rebeccaburgmanlcsw.com

I am a bilingual Licensed Child and
Family Therapist
that’s been there, done that! I am here to help you avoid the reoccurring mistakes and mishaps and help you find the connection with either your teen and/or spouse so that you can continue running your home in a healthier and happy manner.
In a blink of an eye, you're now a parent of a tween/teen(s). Your child has become w/drawn, negative, loss of interest & enjoyment of activities they once enjoyed. There's a change in their sleep, eating habits, doing poorly in school, isolating from friends and
family
, showing risky or harmful behaviors, even possible suicide thoughts. Your child shares with you that they feel depressed, anxious and don’t want to go to school. You try asking them what’s wrong, just to be yelled, “nothing, you wouldn’t even understand. You turn to your partner for support just to find yourself feeling angry, emotionally overwhelmed, invalidated.

My clients are individuals who have
experienced hardships in their personal,
family
,
social or work life. My approach in working with
individuals is based on an Adlerian perspective
which means that we will collaboratively
identify how your thoughts and beliefs impact
your behavior and how those behaviors stem
from your early childhood experiences and
family
of origin and are connected to your
relationships with others.

Mask usage: I will NOT be wearing a mask and ask that you do not either. Your whole face is essential for effective communication. I do have a clear face shield that is sanitized after every use, if you require a mask. Telehealth is always an option. Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
