Testimonial from a former client: "Susan's approach to therapy is grounded in real neurological and behavioral science. With some past counselors, I've often been put off by vaguely new age "feel good" sessions that never sought to address the actual underlying illness. Susan has helped me to identify why I reacted or interpreted something in a certain way, and how to catch myself from repeating those thinking traps. I feel great, my family has never been happier and my work life has soared to new heights."

I provide a safe place where healing can begin and you can learn how to regulate extreme emotions and release limiting beliefs. We all reach points in our lives when we need to talk with someone who is trained in how to listen, someone who can help us make sense of what may feel like a whirling mix of thoughts and emotions. Anxiety or depression can be triggered by life stressors like ongoing work stress or
relationship
issues. You may be grieving a painful loss of someone you loved deeply. You might be struggling with a traumatic experience or history, or you could simply feel a nagging urge to make a change in your life. You may need support as you go through a breakup or divorce, health crisis, graduate from school, or have aging or end-of-life issues.

Relationship
challenges tend to fester if left untreated.
Your
partner
is arguing with you about a fight from last week. He’s raising his voice, but all you hear is a voice in your head saying, “How did we get here?” You once shared a deep sense of connection and understanding and now barely make it through the week without bickering. It breaks your heart. The spark between you is gone, and the only time you’re fired up is while blaming one another. It’s devastating to feel the dreams you shared slipping away from you. You’re lonely, misunderstood, and there is a chasm in your bed that’s impossible to cross. You miss the intimacy and love you used to have. You miss your
partner
's love.

Mask usage: I will NOT be wearing a mask and ask that you do not either. Your whole face is essential for effective communication. I do have a clear face shield that is sanitized after every use, if you require a mask. Telehealth is always an option. Whether you are experiencing marital issues, emotional, social, or psychic issues, or having trouble getting your own brain to function properly, you are feeling pain and distress. If you are looking to save your marriage, in spite of infidelity, I am here to tell you there is hope.

I’m passionate about building a therapeutic
relationship
with each client in my care.
While each client has unique needs, my approach is Person-centered and Humanistic. I typically use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing techniques; however, I have an eclectic approach overall. I sometimes draw interventions from Brief Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also believe it is important to be multifaceted since therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so therapy will be an assimilation of different techniques that are catered to client needs.

In partnership with the client we build a therapeutic
relationship
based on unconditional acceptance of client, genuineness, empathy, and trust.
Everyone has challenges throughout their life and may experience trauma, difficulty adjusting, grief, anxiety, depression, or the stress of everyday life. My hope is that therapy helps them to feel less alone and more equipped to access what they need throughout the process. I am honored to hear my clients stories and get to walk with them through their process of healing. Healing is a personal journey and together, we can determine what is most important for each client on that individual journey. My hope is to help my clients access healing and get in touch with their inner self.

Loss is common to the human experience. And yet, loss stemming from the death of a loved one or from a cancer diagnosis can be incredibly isolating and overwhelming. I know first hand what it is to experience profound loss, both as a three-time cancer survivor and one who grieves for irreplaceable people in my life. It is my great honor to offer trauma-informed, compassionate counseling for adolescents, adults, and
couples
in immense emotional pain who require a competent therapist to provide immediate support and understanding. I work collaboratively with clients, providing interventions aimed to bolster resilience and healing.

Life can be beautiful and wonderful! It can also be overwhelming and painful at times. Feeling understood, cared about & listened to are profound human needs that are often neglected. Starting therapy can be intimidating; however, having a supportive, safe & comfortable outlet can be helpful in working toward healing, growing and thriving. I am here to listen and help you process what is weighing on you with EMDR & other evidence-based approaches. I will encourage your strengths, offer information (knowledge is power) to help you grow, collaborate with you to form your goals and help you with practical steps to achieve those goals.

Hall-Schwarz utilizes an integrative approach with issues of interest, including: marriage issues,
relationship
issues, divorce, remarriage-blended families, relocation, court cases, depression, anxiety, selfesteem issues, communication, stress, life transitions, anxiety, abuse, trauma, grief, career and women's issues.
Symptoms are signals received from both the conscious mind from various sources throughout the body, an indication that something is wrong. By avoiding theses indicators, clients with extending and spiraling issues are able to address symptoms that would otherwise end in a complex and convoluted crises.
Obviously our weaknesses and issues, such as anger, insecurity, fear of intimacy, and/or the need to control are expressions of a wounded child within. Much of society has been wounded through abuse or dysfunctional families. Unresolved conflicts tend to carry-over into our adult functioning.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
