Most of us can easily think of the obvious benefits to counseling but a mental/emotional investment is required to reap those benefits. Unfortunately there is no magic wand or magic pill and as a therapist I cannot "fix" anyone. But...I can teach you how to use your thoughts for your success rather than your destruction. I can show you how your thoughts can be used as the steering wheel of your emotions and behavior. I can help you acquire and employ cognitive and behavioral strategies that will facilitate better communication and improve the relationship with yourself and others.

I and EMDR trained and specialize in working with trauma, women's issues, and life transitions.
I can imagine that you are overwhelmed, overworked, and let's be honest, selling yourself short. Your past trauma might be holding you back, and you've been taught that your needs matter less than the comfort of others. You are wondering if you deserve to be in the room you've found yourself in (hello imposter syndrome). You might be struggling to navigate relationships, managing work or parenting, all while trying to care for your self and stay sane in the process. I get it. I've lived it, and I'm still healing from it.

You’re tired of replaying conversations in your head after every social interaction. You feel awkward every time you speak and worry that everyone is judging you. You decline invitations and activities for fear that you will say or do something foolish. The thought of speaking up at work or at school makes you feel physically ill and panicked. You know you are missing out on so much, but you just don’t know how to quiet this constantly nagging voice in your head. You're worried this will never get better and that nobody understands how you feel.

If you're newly postpartum, life now is likely very different. Whether you are in love or feeling disconnected, you and your body have been through a lot. It's not uncommon to find ourselves comparing our situation to someone else who makes it look so easy keeping their house clean and looking like they just got out of hair and make-up on a movie set. If you're struggling with anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, obsessions, compulsions, or the stress that comes with a major life change... I am here to help you feel like yourself again and navigate this new chapter in your life.

Do you look like you have it all together on the outside but feel anxious, overwhelmed, or exhausted inside? Are you constantly overthinking, people-pleasing, or carrying everyone else’s needs while neglecting your own? You may struggle with perfectionism, self-doubt, guilt, or setting boundaries. Maybe you’re successful on paper but privately stressed and drained. You want peace, confidence, and a calmer way of living—but don’t know how to get there. If this sounds like you, therapy can help.

I’m Janet Worley, LMFT and founder of Worley Wellness Counseling. I work with couples and individuals navigating relationship stress, communication struggles, emotional disconnection, and life transitions. Many of the people I work with care deeply about their relationships but feel stuck in painful patterns that leave them feeling hurt, misunderstood, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, practical, and down-to-earth. I believe therapy works best when clients feel safe enough to be honest, supported enough to be vulnerable, and empowered enough to create meaningful change.

You’ve always been the one others can count on - the responsible one, the helper, the caretaker. Maybe you’re an eldest daughter or you grew up feeling like a parent before your time. On the outside, you seem to have it all together, but inside you may feel anxious, exhausted, or weighed down by guilt, overthinking, and self-doubt.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
