We all have to go through what we need to go through, to get to where we want to be. Coping skills changes and progress as we move through situations, learning how to be better equipped for these situations can seem daunting. Working on yourself to identify new perspectives, new insights and exploring a life that can truly make you happy is where I come in. Allow yourself to process the emotions tied to so many aspects of life with laughter and warmth.

Let me guess. You feel like you're drowning. You're tired of trying to stay on top of it all. Or you're exhausted all the time and burned out from the pressure to perform at work, maintain relationships, and care for your family's needs, let alone your own. Or you feel stuck in a rut and unable to move forward with your life, your goals and it just feels like it's all too much. Did I get that right? Well if so, I get it. Not only do I treat women just like you every week, but I was where you were not too long ago. I know what it feels like to smile to keep from crying when you're sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I strive to create an environment that is warm and welcoming. It is not unusual to feel apprehensive about starting therapy, these fears can usually be alleviated within the first session or two.

Hoarding Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?

Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?

The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?

Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
