I am a specialist in treating children and teens with anxiety and depression through play, art and talk therapy. The past 18 months have been incredibly hard as anxiety has skyrocketed along with other mental health concerns. Every day I help families address the difficulties that are pervasive as we do our best to raise a family in this ever changing and challenging world. Don't miss the signs of anxiety and depression that our current environment is creating for our teens and young adults. Silence does not mean everything is OK. I can help you navigate this unprecedented time and the complicating factors that go with it.

Family baggage weighing you down? I work with parents, families, and individuals. With parents, we address behavioral, relational, and mental health issues in your home. Your children's best shot at improvement is to work WITH you as you work to improve, too. For individuals, I help challenge beliefs about yourself and the world around you, formed though your experiences, including traumas, how you were raised, and how you engage in relationships of all kinds. Addressing your mental health means shaking up reality as you know it and challenging your perceptions, many you've had since, or because of, your childhood or family .

Ray Myers
Pre-Licensed Professional
Ray is trained in a comprehensive background of therapeutic systems including CBT, REBT, family systems, SFBT, person-centered and Adlerian therapy.
Through his own life circumstances, Ray has learned that it’s enough to be a survivor and to fail forward. The mind can be a wonderful student but a terrible master. The question inevitably becomes how positive change happens when someone feels they’re already trying their best. Sometimes change starts with a new plan and help with organizing those thoughts that make one feel “stuck.” Often, it’s the therapeutic relationship that helps bring about the pathway to healing and helpful functioning. Regardless of life paths, clients possess great strength that can be used to return them to the best version of themselves.

With the rise of social media and all the pressures teens face today, it can be extremely difficult to know how to help when you see your child hurting or struggling. Let's face it, kids are growing up in a different world and in complicated times. Many loving parents want to act, but fail to do so because they either don't know how to help, where to start, or who to trust. This is where I come in. I would love to help you and your family find new solutions, have better communication, and discover a pathway to a stronger relationship as well as a more hopeful future.

I work with women and mothers who are navigating significant personal or family life transitions, transitions that often include identity re-exploration, chronic stress, burnout, and complex trauma. I support women who are, often, overwhelmed and fatigued from balancing life, family , church, community, and children. Many of my clients are looking for ways to manage busy family life and feelings of chronic sorrow, caregiver burden, and compassion fatigue. My clients are seeking skills that will help them create deeper connections for their children and family while maintaining their own sense of health, happiness, and well-being.

Everyone has a narrative... a personal story that we tell ourselves about our life and share with the world. Part of our narrative comes from our family of origin and the other comes from experiences that have cultivated our perception of reality. Sometimes the challenge comes when we relive unpleasant experiences & have triggers that can deeply affect our "here and now"... The ultimate purpose of therapy is to connect with someone that is knowledgable about human behavior, compassionate about others & can guide you in working through challenges and share insights on how to cope and heal.

I offer teen support groups near you, parent support groups, individual counseling, and family counseling.
In addition to providing individual counseling for teen depression, teen anxiety, ASD, teen self-harm, and other teen-related issues, I also provide teen support groups. Group is one of the most powerful tools in helping teens grow and get better alongside other teens. When teens realize they are no longer alone they begin to see there is help and there is hope and want to be a part of a small community with those who understand. Each teen support group is led by a trained therapist with a small group of 4-7 members and ensures positive productive conversation as well as the development of new coping skills.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
