I have worked in various settings and issues of practice include sexual identity,
relationship
concerns, divorce, blended family adjustments, victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, as well as survivors of childhood trauma (physical, emotional or sexual abuse).
Carl Rogers once said, "When a person realizes he has been deeply heard, his eyes moisten. I think in some real sense he is weeping for joy. It is as though he were saying, "Thank God, somebody heard me. Someone knows what it's like to be me." We all experience times in our lives where we just need to be heard, to be validated, to find some direction. It is my belief that a therapeutic
relationship
with a genuine therapist who provides an authentic, nonjudgmental, safe environment is the most important factor for growth and positive outcomes.

I help
couples
who are motivated to rekindle their love, to understand and shift the patterns of
relationship
that keep them stuck in repeated arguments and moments of disconnection.
You love your
partner
and don't want to end up divorced, but you're scared. Deep down you wonder, is this all there is? You are frustrated that you keep having the same fight. You wonder if things will ever get better. Maybe if you learned how to communicate, things would get better? But you do fine communicating with everyone else. How is it that your
partner
knows just how to push your buttons? You feel hurt and frustrated so quickly. You don't know how to tell them how much you miss them and long for that connection. There just doesn't seem to be much energy left for you or your
relationship
, including intimacy.

I primarily work with adolescents, teens, adults, families and
couples
on a wide range of counseling issues like: Depression, Anxiety, Eating Disorders, Self-harm, PTSD, Marital Issues or Affairs, Rape, Grief/Loss, Divorce, Infertility/Miscarriage, and Child or Adult physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
Each person is unique and so is what they come in with. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. In fact, I pull from different treatment protocols to find what best fits you. This isn't a place where I tell you what to do or give advice, but a place where I join in with you in your process and we collaborate together to meet your needs. My goal is for therapy to be as efficient as possible, working through what we need to each session and maximizing a felt connection by undoing aloneness.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
