Have your traumatic experiences left you full of anxiety, fearful of crowds, unable to trust people or even cause you to doubt your own decision-making? I get it! I often hear clients say, “something must be wrong with me", If I had just done it differently’?” My own experience with the military culture, DV, personality disorders, the tragic death of a spouse, breast cancer, divorce (just to name a few) drove me to become an expert in trauma and personality disorders to walk with others to help them find peace and empowerment that I have personally learned is attainable with counseling.

If you are struggling to control your unwanted sexual behaviors, despite your best efforts, and it has put significant strain on relationships, family, job, or other areas of your life, I see you. I have walked the road you are on - successfully - and look forward sharing the way through with you. Sexuality is a normal, healthy part of adult life that can increase your emotional intimacy, strengthen your sense of self-image, and act as a buffer to outside stressors. In short, sex matters. But when sexual behaviors become compulsive, destructive, or illegal, it's time to get help.

I believe that everyone has a right to live the life that they desire; however, life does not always work out as we hope. We cannot predict the events that will happen to us or how they will impact our lives. However, we can choose how we will respond to those events. As a therapist, I have the opportunity to be a partner as you work to improve your life. I believe that education, practical application, evidence-based techniques, and a focus on measurable outcomes are the fastest ways to achieve the client’s goals. I think that therapy should be as brief as necessary, with a primary focus on helping the client achieve their goals.

ARC's philosophy is to provide a unique and tailored comprehensive assessment and analysis process. Rather than domain-based testing to search for a specific diagnosis, we evaluate to uncover, discover and provide a blueprint highlighting the unique ways that each person’s brain functions. We approach every case, client and family with a clean slate for the purpose of an unbiased approach to performing comprehensive neuropsychological testing. Through the testing process, Dr. Gayoso and her team interpret and analyze the results to give each patient and family a blueprint, rather than a diagnosis, as to how their brain works.

You might be the one who holds it all together for everyone else… but inside, you’re tired. Tired of feeling triggered or misunderstood in relationships. Tired of carrying so much on your own. Tired of overthinking. And even when you "know better", something still gets triggered in the moment. That’s where we start. I help you slow things down, understand what’s really coming up, and feel more grounded and confident in yourself and your relationships. I help support overcoming traumatic experiences with an EMDR approach. My approach is warm, supportive, and at your pace. You don’t have to have everything figured out to start.

I take a whole body approach to health and illness with a focus on how the mind influences the body just as the body influences the mind. Anxiety, depression, and stress can impact health and exacerbate chronic pain, heart disease, insomnia, and other medical problems. However, addressing the emotional aspects of medical conditions can improve quality of life and physical health. Also, psychological principles can help enhance wellness and lead to lasting behavioral changes. As a health psychologist, I can help you emotionally cope with medical conditions, make healthy lifestyle choices, and learn skills to move forward with your life.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists
How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
