Feel anxious, fearful and insecure in your relationships? Do you make yourself small, quiet and "needless" to avoid "rocking the boat"? Do you struggle saying "no", hate being alone, or feel a lot of fear towards others or the world? Do you deny or not know how you feel emotionally? Do you feel younger than you actually are? ...Pause...breath in...and out... There is hope. You can feel more secure in your relationships and yourself by stopping self-abandonment/self-sabotage by taking small, consistent, daily action. You can learn to communicate with security and self-respect/acceptance. You can heal from what causes you to fear.

My style of therapy encompasses the idea of motivating through speaking your truth. I reach people with my honest, genuine, and real sense of intuition about challenges they face. My goal for clients is to increase personal awareness of problematic behaviors they want to change and then engage in finding new ways to incorporate change in their lives with struggling with power, control, depression, trauma, relationship problems, loss of identity, stillbirth, grief, and divorce. I completed my PhD through researching and treating emotion avoidance strategies with the population of individuals with PNES.

Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, weighed down by depression, or frustrated with the challenges of ADHD, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to navigate it by yourself.

I admire the clients who take the initial step to reach out to A Sheltering Tree. It takes courage to begin a relationship with a stranger where you are asked to reveal areas of struggle and pain. I am honored to be given this opportunity, and my goal is to co-create a relationship built on trust so that we can work together to help you find the answers that you seek for the changes in you want in your life.

Therapy is a safe space for you to express whatever comes to mind, without holding anything back. From there, we gently begin to explore the patterns in your emotional responses and relationships, as well as, make meaning of behaviors that may feel automatic or hard to explain. Rather than viewing these experiences as problematic, we understand them to be the wise ways you developed to adapt to your environment and upbringing. Beneath it all is a human longing to be fully known and to feel emotionally safe in the process, but past experiences cause us to unconsciously put up walls that push others away, leaving us feeling unseen.

Do you ever feel like your needs and feelings take a back seat in your relationships — whether it’s with friends, family, a partner, or at work? Maybe you’re the one always giving, taking care of others, or saying yes even when you’re running on empty. You might show up for everyone else, even when you're overwhelmed or drained. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and it’s okay to want support for what you're carrying.

What if your anxiety, self-doubt, and exhaustion aren’t signs that something is wrong—but invitations to reconnect with your deeper self? The world feels heavier than ever. The pressure to keep up, the unpredictability of what’s next, and the demand to perform can leave you wondering—How do I move? Where do I belong? How do I reclaim my power? Feeling highly anxious/emotionally reactive/disconnected from your body can create cycles of overthinking, burnout, and self-doubt. You may find yourself “performing” success while secretly battling imposter syndrome and the weight of past experiences shaping how you move through the world.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
