I am a specialist in treating children and teens with anxiety and depression through play, art and talk therapy. The past 18 months have been incredibly hard as anxiety has skyrocketed along with other mental health concerns. Every day I help families address the difficulties that are pervasive as we do our best to raise a family in this ever changing and challenging world. Don't miss the signs of anxiety and depression that our current environment is creating for our teens and young adults. Silence does not mean everything is OK. I can help you navigate this unprecedented time and the complicating factors that go with it.

I use many therapies including art therapy , sand tray therapy, pet therapy, trauma informed therapy, LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy, Gestalt techniques, and Person-Centered Counseling.
Counseling can be a scary next step for anyone, and it is my goal to create a safe and warm environment for you to express what you need, and be yourself freely. Problems that surface in our lives are many times symptoms of the hurt that we have faced, and I would love to relieve the loneliness in that hurt by walking through this healing journey with you. I am currently seeing adults, and have worked with a range of issues. I would love to have the opportunity to meet you!

As a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), and a graduate from The Dallas Art Therapy Institute's rigorous post-master's program, and with thousands of hours in continuing education, I have the tools to help children and their families to heal.
I am a pediatric psychotherapist with many years of experience working with children who show that they are not functioning well at home and school with "negative" behaviors or anxiety. Outbursts of anger, sadness, and fear, not following directions, arguing, and crying make life difficult for the family and the child. I help the child to understand themselves and help teach them how to function to the best of their ability. I guide and support parents to manage the behaviors and bring about family harmony. I enjoy helping a child to gain self-esteem and the "I Can Do It" attitude.

I believe that life is a series of adjustments and living with painful memories or troubling feelings is exhausting. I would love the opportunity to support you and guide you along your journey. The most important piece between the client and therapist is the clinical rapport. I provide a safe and non-judgmental environment. I view psychotherapy as a collective process between client and therapist. I help people who are suffering from anxiety and depression, people who feel stressed and people who have experienced painful and traumatic life events.

Are you tired of returning to using the same old tools or substances to cope without improvement? Are you tired of being told "Nothing's wrong; You're fine", "It's all in your head,", "Have you tried getting more sleep?". It might be time to talk to someone who gets it, and who can help. I understand not being able to afford specialized treatment or being lost in the incredibly confusing world of health insurance coverage. I understand what it's like to get negative or inconclusive test results over and over, to be dismissed because you don't fit the "normal" presentation of an illness, or because you're a woman or Person of Color.

I am committed to helping you identify and do the work to be your best for yourself and for those whose lives you touch. I will provide a safe, non-judgmental environment that is conducive to an honest, empathetic and direct exchange of information and ideas.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
