Many of my clients are used to being the strong one—the one others rely on. On the outside, things may look steady, but internally there can be anxiety, self-doubt, or a constant sense of overwhelm.
You might find yourself overthinking, second-guessing your needs, or feeling stretched thin in your relationships. Even when you’re doing your best, it can feel like something is missing or unsettled underneath.

I work with lots of clients that are struggling in their most important relationships, whether it's marriage or family. We sometimes feel stuck, or just plain exhausted in all our attempts to improve things alone. This is where a trusted helper can make a difference. I enjoy the process of helping couples and families understand the factors that are at play in their relationships and how to improve them.

My dedication to the field of mental health stems from my personal experience with it. I grew up with family members living with mental illness and I have personally overcome some mental health challenges over the course of my lifetime, too. I know firsthand that having mental health concerns can be difficult. I would describe my style as friendly and supportive, but I am also prepared to receive and assist you in overcoming your struggles from the get-go. We can work together at prioritizing, setting goals, and achieving them, at your pace!

I enjoy helping individuals learn more about themselves and finding balance in the different areas of their lives through creative therapy and talk therapy. I specialize in substance use disorders, communication skills, and emotional regulation. I believe in the indivisible connection between the body and the mind, focusing on how our mental health affects our bodies and how our physical health affects our minds. I connect with clients using a person-centered approach, but I value the structure of behavioral techniques and the benefits of motivational interviewing to help promote change.

I often work with adults, teenagers, and couples, especially those who identify as Queer or come from under-served communities. I primarily work with people who experience overwhelming and difficult to manage emotions, Gender and Identity exploration, communication concerns, relational concerns, and those just trying to develop their stride in this weird limbo that is life. Additionally, I have worked with those experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, anger, and stress related to the external systems outside of our control.

Crisis and adversity often provide opportunities to realign with our core values, needs, and desires. People of all ages seek talk therapy during emotional crises, as it helps them identify symptoms of anxiety and depression stemming from academic, social, and emotional stressors. I specialize in assisting individuals in developing coping strategies and creating a plan for returning to a sense of normalcy using evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I believe that collaborative work is crucial in therapy.

Navigating this world is not easy. We often face pressure from society, work, family, friends, and there never seems to be one, clear answer to our problems. Sometimes, even when we do get advice, it seems contradictory or impossible to follow. We are constantly trying to do better, reach out, and take care of others, but we often forget ourselves in the process. That is where therapy comes in! The best moments, for me, is watching my clients gain insight into their lives, thoughts, and emotions, and help make sense of their experience in a way they have never done before.

“Your mental health is everything — prioritize it. Make the time like your life depends on it because it does.” — Mel Robbins. I believe that I didn't choose to be a mental health professional, the profession chose me. I remember helping my friends in High school with their traumas and life transition issues. The ability to connect and make people feel comfortable talking to me about their personal stories took me on this professional path. What I love the most about being a mental health professional is having the opportunity and privilege of being a part of people’s journeys. Thank you for visiting my profile.

What can a Hispanic and Latino therapist help with?
A Hispanic or Latino therapist can support clients with a variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, grief, and major life transitions. What may set a therapist who personally identifies as Hispanic or Latino apart, however, is their ability to integrate cultural context into your care. If you identify with a specific cultural background, such as Mexican, Puerto Rican, Brazilian, or Colombian, working with a therapist who shares your identity can make a meaningful difference in therapy since you may feel that you have to explain yourself less, or that certain cultural values around family, respect, religion, and emotional expression are more understood by them.
What role can language play in therapy?
Language plays a central role in how people process and express emotions. Even for individuals who are fluent in English, certain feelings, memories, or experiences may be easier to describe in Spanish or in the language they grew up speaking. For many Hispanic and Latino clients, language is also closely tied to identity and family relationships. Being able to move between English and Spanish in therapy can help reflect real-life dynamics, such as communicating with family members in one language and navigating work or school in another. Read more about the advantages of choosing a bilingual counselor here.
How can a Hispanic and Latino therapist support family therapy?
Family is central in many Hispanic and Latino cultures, and a therapist with cultural familiarity may be better equipped to navigate family dynamics without oversimplifying them. Culturally responsive therapists may be able to more accurately interpret family roles and dynamics, thus allowing them to distinguish between cultural norms and clinically concerning dynamics. In addition, Hispanic and Latino therapists who speak Spanish may be a particularly good fit for bilingual or multilingual families, as a therapist that can facilitate clearly across languages will help ensure that all family members feel heard and understood.
How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Hispanic and Latino clients?
The best way to inquire about a therapist’s specific experience with Hispanic and Latino clients is to ask them targeted questions during an initial phone call or consultation. Consider asking questions such as: What experience do you have working with Hispanic or Latino clients? How do you incorporate cultural background into your approach to therapy? Do you offer therapy in Spanish or another language? You may also ask about specific examples of when they’ve navigated working with Hispanic and Latino clients.
Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Hispanic and Latino therapists?
The Psychology Today directory of Hispanic and Latino therapists includes providers who have identified their ethnicity on their profile. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. When the number of therapists near you who identify as Hispanic and Latino is limited, the directory will also show therapists with experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
