My heart and expertise are in the area of dealing with relational issues whether it be between a couple or between parents and teens. So many times, communication gets in the way of being able to deal with the real issues so there is no real resolution. I also have a great desire and many year of experience in working with
women's issues
. Each individual experience we go through, does affect us, however, that does not mean that we cannot change the way we respond to situations or the way we think about things.

Kristin Goodwin specializes in eating disorders, self-harm, and
women's issues
.
Our mission is to help individuals, families, and groups explore the issues keeping them from a satisfying and fulfilling life. FWCAI's clinically trained therapists offer a variety of therapeutic approaches, seeking the best solution for each client. We offer an integrated approach to counseling, using a biblical worldview and our skills and experience to offer counseling from a Christian perspective, although we also use traditional and cutting edge therapeutic approaches and integrate them into our practice where helpful. Not every client shares our worldview, and this integrated approach allows us to serve clients not seeking distinctly Christian counseling.

My focus is on creating a treatment plan based on the individual client’s needs, strengths, resources and goals. Helping people get connected with their community and other professional resources that will help them reach their goals more effectively is critical. I work well with both men's challenges and and
women's issues
. We often get closed in by a set of assumptions about ourselves and our relationships that keep us from reaching truly attainable changes. It is exciting to watch the growth and change that people are able to make as they discover hidden resources for transformation within themselves.

My ideal client recognizes things could be better, even if they don't know how to get there. This client is someone who wants to refocus and rebalance themselves and their family unit. Their issues and concerns could be a result of mindset, lack of belief or a lack of awareness, among other things. They seek to be heard, seen, acknowledged and valued in an effort to improve outlook and communication and develop practical skills (such as problem-solving) to help them moving forward.

I work with clients who struggle with anxiety, stress and trauma. Having lived with debilitating anxiety and trauma since childhood, I've devoted my career to the educational pursuit of understanding and learning how (and why) the brain sends signals to the nervous system that cause anxiety, and sometimes what feels like paralyzing states, as well as finding tools to help bring about calm states within the mind and body.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
