I have experience working with individuals, families, and groups of diverse backgrounds who are experiencing anxiety, depression,
trauma
, cultural adjustment, interpersonal stress, and more.
There you are… the person who conveys to the world that you are “totally ok.” The person who “has it all together” according to life’s standards but feels quite differently on the inside. My message to you is that you matter and you are enough. We all manage an immense number of stressors in our daily lives, and therapy is a safe space where you can take time to pause, reflect, and grow. You are the expert of your life, and my role as your therapist is to provide insight and understanding into your experiences to assist you on your journey. Without judgment, I will provide you comfort and be the listening ear you need.

Since 2013, I've had the professional privilege of joining with others, like you, as they bravely face anxiety, depression, loss, relationship breakdowns,
trauma
, abuse, brain injury, difficult transitions, and many other life challenges.
Life is fragile and sometimes unpredictable. Unexpected or painful experiences can alter your life in profound ways. The cord of hope that connects you to your life and dreams can become strained or broken. You may feel anxious, sad, or angry. Perhaps some time has passed and you realize that time alone does not heal all wounds. Whether your wound is new or old, counseling can help. You don’t have to go through it alone. It would be my honor to join with you as you move through your struggles and experience more self-acceptance, peace, fulfillment, connection, and healing.

My in-depth
trauma
training in Somatic Experiencing and DBT offer hope and help for wanting to manage emotions and reactions effectively.
Do you manage your emotions or do they manage you? Do you tend to do the same thing over and over either within yourself or with your partner in a way that seems to steal your joy and hope? This is where a lot of my clients find themselves. They feel stuck in these "cycles" internally or externally with others that they just don't see a way forward with the way things are as they stand now. There is HOPE! Let me show you how with more in-depth explanations of what I do and how I do it in video form. Visit my website at rootedinhopetx.com

I specialize in working with clients who are having feelings of anxiety, depression, panic, overwhelm and dealing with
trauma
.
I believe that within you already exists everything you need to live a rewarding and joy-filled life: You are not broken. We adapt strategies that save us in the moment yet fail us as we seek change. Without awareness, inner thoughts and emotions derail progress, keeping us stuck and unfulfilled. By cultivating self-awareness in the therapeutic process and learning new skills you will find a decrease in negative emotions.

I have over 15 years working with children and teens who have experienced
trauma
. I enjoy working with this population to address anxiety, depression, family issues, self-image issues, and
trauma
. I also see children or teens who have chronic medical conditions and help them adjust to the changes of their lives now that they have this condition. I use evidenced based treatments to address the issues and meet every person where they are in the treatment process. I enjoy watching the progress that is made so that the children and adolescents see there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we can reach it together.

My goal is to walk with you through overcoming shame, negative self-talk, and
trauma
so that you can start to live the life that you want.
We live in a world where we are expected to do it all, perfectly, and without struggling. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others and we declare ourselves "not good enough." These feelings tend to dictate our response to those around us, so that we are really just reacting to what is going on behind the scenes without even realizing it. I believe that a lot of the issues that present on the surface -- family issues, addiction, depression, and anxiety -- can be treated by focusing on overcoming shame, negative self-talk, and
trauma
. If this can be done, then the chances of improving your quality of life increases.

I understand
trauma
and the dynamics that can come from it. The body and the mind has information for us and I like to help with accessing that information through talking and physical awareness. I can help with discovering new ways of connecting to others and yourself which can lead to a path of healing. I was deployed multiple times overseas with the military so I understand finding the normal in unusual situations.

Hardships and
trauma
create them, as I have learned from experience.
Do you find yourself struggling with a constant reminder of what you are not, thoughts in your mind telling you that you will never be good enough or worthy of what you hope for, going around and around the same mountain of struggle? Maybe you are told that you often overreact in any given situation, but you cannot say why you do. You want to change, but cannot seem to figure out how. Do you struggle with even going about your daily tasks desperately trying to climb out of the well of hopelessness you seem to have fallen into?

I am a
trauma
therapist who specializes in working with children and teens who have experienced
trauma
and struggle with depression, anxiety, or have behavioral problems.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist and EMDR Certified. I am passionate about working with parents who want to strength their relationship with their child by learning new ways to connect and understand their child/teen. My practice is focused on working with the entire family system. Many times parents seek services for their child. When they come to my office, we work on helping the parent be a partner in the healing process. My approach is different than other child therapist because I involve the parents in every step of the process and encourage them to be the parents that they want to be.

I have experience treating individuals with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, addiction, grief,
trauma
, and adjustment issues.
I believe that every person's life could be a novel. Everyone is born with a set of unique experiences, gifting and personality. Therapy should utilize and capitalize on these unique qualities of each individual. Everyone experiences their own unique set of challenges and triumphs in life. However, sometimes circumstances are more than someone can deal with alone. A good therapist will help to uncover, provide feedback, and talk with each individual about solutions to life's challenges.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
