While I work with a wide variety of clients, I specialize in folks with a history of trauma, those who have experienced intimate partner violence, sexual assault , or struggled with addictions.
Prioritizing yourself, and your wellness can be difficult, especially in our turbulent world. I would be honored to help you create a safe space where you can completely be yourself, and accepted for who that is. I am always amazed at the resilience and potential each of my clients have, and I would love to help you tap into that. I believe that an authentic relationship between the counselor and client is really important for change. I know I am not always the right fit for all clients, so if I'm not your cup of tea, I will help you find the counselor that is!

I specialize in severe abuse, sexual abuse , relationship & family issues, couple’s therapy, PTSD, ADHD & Anxiety.
CORONA VIRUS UPDATE: 1st, These are hard, stressful times! I’m sooo sorry we’re all going through this. I am seeing clients in person & via teletherapy. Unfortunately I do not take insurance but I’ve lowered my rate to $85 an hour to try and make therapy as affordable as possible. I’ve been in practice 15 years and have opened my service area thanks to Google Duo & Facetime. I became a therapist after doing my own work over 2 decades ago and yes, I still do my own work with a therapist. It wasn’t easy but it was definitely the best thing I’ve ever done for myself, my family & my friends. I hope I can help you.

As a therapist, I am trained in theories and techniques of counseling. However, it is the all important interaction between the client and myself where the art of therapy exists. This art is the rapport established by my value for each client and a high regard for the distinctive qualities they bring to the sessions and their own unique experiences. My practice includes: divorce, pre-marital, marital, family dynamic issues with specialization in life changes from traumatic violence & sexual abuse /dysfunctions & addictions. I believe in encountering clients where they are, with humble respect for what they bring into sessions.

If trauma such as domestic violence, assault , negative childhood experiences or bullying are at the root of your distress, we can address it with specialized trauma treatments like EMDR.
Here you are. Things may not be bad, but they aren’t really good either. It’s amazing how much pain, unhappiness, emptiness and isolation we are willing to endure before we do anything. Forces outside of our control, like the COVID pandemic, have exacerbated social anxiety in teens and adults; resulting in higher levels of suicide. Perhaps you have tried everything you can imagine and nothing worked. You may be frightened that things will never be good again. The good news is our body, mind and spirit are hard-wired for healing. Sometimes, we just need a little help. Especially, when others have worked hard to tear us down.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
