Life is built through relationships. As a therapist, I believe in providing a trusting, caring, and non-judgmental environment to build that relationship. Without those qualities you won't feel that you are building a safe relationship to express yourself. Taking the first step in asking for help is the most difficult. Thank you for trusting me as you begin that journey. I have 30 years of experience in building therapeutic relationships.

My experience as a wife, bonus mom to two children, my own journey of faith, and time spent with the animals I adore, affords me the ability to utilize these relationships to help communicate the many ways in which clients interact with the world around them can be beneficial and become a catalyst for growth and healing. My approach to therapy utilizes a foundation that life experiences, even as early as childhood, shape our view of the world around us, how we relate to others, and how we view ourselves. These experiences, in turn, shape our beliefs, thoughts, perceptions and interactions throughout every aspect of our lives.

“Our scars can destroy us, even after the physical wounds healed. But if we can survive them, they can even transform us. They can give us the power to endure and the strength to fight” - Batman, 2021. After you've experienced trauma you live in a different universe, you see the world differently. Only what you feel is real. Traumatized minds are directed by emotions and misinterpret logic. I work best with those who are highly imaginative, creative, and ready to confront their past.

At Empowering Connections Therapy, we believe healing begins with connection. When a young person is struggling with anxiety, behavioral concerns, trauma, emotional regulation, or life transitions, the entire family feels the impact. That is why our work centers not only on the child, but on strengthening the relationships that support them. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where children, teens, and their families feel seen, heard, and understood.

There are moments where each of us experience difficult and stressful points in our lives. Whether it's a painful divorce, the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, going through stress in a relationship, unresolved self-esteem issues, questions about gender or sexuality, dealing with a troubled child, family stress, or facing pain from childhood and/or adult trauma. Life can be hard at times; there is no doubt about that. I have come to view those challenging times that we all experience, albeit in different ways, as opportunities for us to make positive changes and adjustments - what I like to call "reset moments."

Psychosis Therapists
What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?
The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?
People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?
Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?
It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
