I am a Certified Positive Discipline
Parent
Educator and working toward certification in play therapy.
How often do you find yourself thinking of what could have been? Perhaps it's not what could have been but something you should have done differently? Or maybe it's more about the future for you, all the what ifs? Do these journeys into the past and future leave you feeling guilty, frustrated or filled with fear? I work to ground my clients in the here and now, accepting what is as opposed to what could be. I aim to help individuals reach their goals by building self-awareness and self-compassion.

parent

*ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS VIRTUALLY IN THE STATES OF TEXAS and CALIFORNIA* Children and adolescents often find it challenging to process all that is going on in their heads, and are unaware of the impact these thoughts have on the physical sensations in their bodies. I am incredibly passionate about pediatric mental health and mental illness prevention. I am touched by each opportunity I’m given to help bring about healing for children and their families. It is my desire to give children the tools they need in order to share what they are feeling, and to allow them to look forward to their future with hope.

Always being the "strong one" can have consequences. When people hear the word depression, they often envision sadness, crying, and withdrawal; Yet depression can look just the opposite. As a result, the myth of what depression looks like may keep other HIGH ACHIEVING DEPRESSED ADULTS from seeking the help they need. I work with a number of different issues, but focus is placed on adults who are struggling emotionally and that struggle has negatively impacted areas such as;
parenting
; relationships; job satisfaction; and overall quality of life.

I understand how hard it can be to find help. You want someone to hear you, validate your feelings, and give you the tools you need to make your relationship successful, all in a nonjudgmental environment. I love helping my clients have healthier relationships. As a Gottman trained counselor, I can help you break down the walls that have been created in your relationship that divide you and your significant other by utilizing research based techniques. I use the Gottman Connect assessments with couples, which measure success or struggles in key areas such as friendship, intimacy, conflict resolution, household chores, &
parenting
.

Whether a child, adolescent, or adult, we all need a place to feel cared for and accepted. I believe that there is hope for all of us to heal and to grow. I love to help families build strong relationships through family therapy, couples therapy, or
parenting
education. I utilize play-based therapy with children to help them heal from trauma, build healthy coping skills, and strengthen the
parent
-child bond, with the hope that this will build a strong foundation for their future health. For adults, whether dealing with trauma, challenging situations, or feelings you can't explain, I will help you work through it to find healing.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
