My name is Desiree Peoples. I am the founding therapist at Restoring Love Counseling. I specialize in couples counseling with a focus on pre-marital and marital counseling. Whether you’re getting ready to say “I do” or perhaps your seasoned marriage is facing trying times. My goal is to provide a safe haven for couples who are seeking a space to be themselves and to be heard without judgement. Often times couples find themselves in a vicious cycle of unhealthy communication and behaviors that have worsened over time due to the lack of connection to their partner. Ultimately, the lack of connection has led to a lack of intimacy.

Over the past 15 years, I have had the unique opportunity to counsel people in Europe, Asia and North America. In my work, I have had the privilege of counseling people of various ages, nationalities, races and cultures. I have found that although human suffering has many faces, all people have common needs and desires. We all want health and wellness. We all want to prosper and be successful in what we do. We all strive for perfection. I strongly believe that everyone has the power and potential to overcome interpersonal struggles, relational difficulties, and life crises.

My experience ranges from residential treatment, church counseling ministry, and private practice. I have also taught counseling in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi through the Association of Biblical Counselors where I served as Director of Equip the Nations. I have developed a successful curriculum on Pornography addiction, called the "5 Ways Out". I have also created and counselled a curriculum called, "Helper Lover", for marriage counseling.

My counseling approach stems from my biblical world-view and my faith in Christ Jesus. This viewpoint shapes how I interact with my clients. I am seeking to help you live a full and healthy life by teaching you to set appropriate boundaries, take responsibility for your life, and heal in the midst of pain. I do this through integrating biblical truths and proven psychological tools. At times we all need assistance in making changes in our lives and I am here to help you do that.

Life can be so hard to maneuver sometimes. No one is immuned from difficulty, setbacks and hard times. Sometimes it's good to talk to someone that will listen and sit with you during such difficulties. I'd like to be that person. I've been married for 33 years. I have a 26 year old son and a 22 year old daughter. I'm a Desert Storm Vet. I also spent many years in the software sales industry before becoming a therapist. I feel this gives me some credibility in many situations so I'm not coming to the table with a lack of experience. In my spare time, I like to hunt, fish, golf, hike and most anything outdoors.

Robert McGowen is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S). I have worked in several different roles in the Behavioral Health field which includes private practice, marriage counseling, substance abuse (adult and teen), youth emergency shelter, anxiety, chronic mental illness, and others. Robert completed his Master's degree in Marriage and Family Counseling at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He later went on to obtain a Master's degree in Business Administration.
